✨God’s Work. Our Hands✨

And now for the part we’ve been waiting for… the youth! 💙

These kids didn’t just show up, they went ALL IN! They deep cleaned the food truck, pressure washed the outside, scrubbed the interior, and even polished up the cab. 🚚

✨ Let’s just say that food truck got the spa treatment!

We are incredibly grateful for the youth and their willingness to roll up their sleeves and serve.

And a very special shout-out to an amazing Youth Director, Alexis, who not only leads these awesome kids but also delivers food to the pantry. We truly couldn’t do it without her!

Thank you, youth, for putting your faith into action and taking such good care of a very important part of the food pantry ministry! ✨

✨God’s Work. Our Hands✨

Today is the ELCA’s annual day of service, a day to put our faith into action and serve our community.

Here at the Carol Hummel Food Pantry, the crew got down to the really glamorous work ! We pressure washed all of the shopping carts, buggies, and stocking carts, then cleaned and disinfected all of our freezers. Everything is fresh, clean, and ready to serve neighbors!

And this is just the beginning! Keep an eye on this page to see what our youth group did as their act of service. We’re pretty proud of them! ✨

I’ll go first…
This week I made butternut squash soup. Almost everything came from the pantry, the butternut squash, onion and milk, with only the garlic, salt and pepper coming from my own kitchen.

So this delicious, nutritious meal was practically free! 🙌

And as someone recovering from oral surgery this week, I especially appreciated having something warm, nourishing and delicious that didn’t require chewing. 🦷

Wednesday’s powerhouse: Debbie. 💪

The red cabbage was landlocked in the back corner of the walk-in cooler.

Most people would have said, “Well, that’s inaccessible.”

Not Debbie…she found a way. 😂

We can’t give it away if it doesn’t make it out of the walk-in cooler and that’s not happening on Debbie’s watch! 😂🥬

Debbie works HARD, and without her, Wednesdays wouldn’t be as much fun.❤️

🍍 Pineapple. So. Much. Pineapple. 🍍

We had a pallet of pineapple last week. We worked hard to get it into the hands of neighbors.

And first thing this morning…

ANOTHER PALLET. 😂

At this point, we have pineapple coming out our ears. 🍍👂

But we’re not complaining! Fresh pineapple is nutritious, delicious, and wonderfully versatile. Add it to fruit salad, salsa, smoothies, or try it grilled for a sweet-and-savory treat.

Thursday Food Rescue! 🥦🍎💚

Thursday is our last distribution day of the week, and by afternoon and evening, there can be less variety on our shelves.

That’s why we’re excited to announce that every Thursday, we’ll be picking up food rescue donations from two new retail partners: The Fresh Market and Food Lion!

Food rescue gives perfectly good food a second chance—and helps us put more variety on the shelves for our Thursday neighbors.

Good food. Less waste. More choices for our neighbors.
