On this day, 164 years ago, Private Casper Liszman was wounded in the Battle of Moore’s Hill in Monroe County, Ky and later died in Tompkinsville, Ky. Originally interred in the Tompkinsville National Cemetery and after the Civil War removed to the Nashville National Cemetery, Section U, Site 10139. Here is some information on Private Liszman:

In 1860, he was a cabinet maker living with and/or working for cabinet maker Conrad Reif in South Middleton Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He married Sarah A. Ditmer November 7, 1861, in Petersburg, Adams County, and they opened housekeeping in Mount Holly Springs, Cumberland County. He stood 5' 8" tall and had black hair and brown eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Carlisle at the stated age of twenty-two September 19, 1861, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg October 26 as a private with Co. I, 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry (92nd Pa), and promoted to corporal, date as yet unknown. On June 6, 1862, he was wounded at Moore's Hill, Kentucky, in action against Confederate partisan John Hunt Morgan's forces and died from his injuries reportedly in Tompkinsville, Kentucky. He is in the Pennsylvania Archives' ARIAS file as "Lieman."

The widowed Sarah married Jacob F. Lehmer April 9, 1876.
