The Program Committee is responsible for recruiting and supporting speakers, facilitators, and zoom operators for Sunday mornings, and coordinating with the OOS, newsletter editor, webmaster, treasurer, and musicians to ensure that our worship services run smoothly.

There will be a Program Committee meeting on Monday September 14 at 3 pm in the living room to discuss the above duties and programming for the winter and spring. Fall is already set up. Please email Pam at [email protected] if you are interested in attending, helping, and/or have suggestions. If you are interested in being a new facilitator or zoom operator, there will be a training after the meeting.

I will be starting a new group called Artsy CrUU that will attend monthly activities together. The date, time and location of each event will be announced in the monthly newsletter. Examples of the activities are attending museums, plays, Clay Cup, Artwalk, local festivals, concerts, etc. We may eat out together before or after the event. Anyone is welcome to attend, church membership is not required. We will try to schedule free/cheap events, as well as some daytime events. Feel free to only attend the activities that interest you.

The first outing will be Artwalk on Saturday September 12. We will focus on “non Post Office Street” locations. We will meet at Marmo Cafe at 5 pm (optional) at 2121 Market St. After eating/drinking, we will walk around Marmo Market at 6 pm, then leave for other locations. We will have a future event where we go to all the Post Office locations. Email [email protected] if you are interested or have suggestions.

September 13, 2026 Rusty Nelson - My Journey on the Fourth Way

Rusty has been a member of a Fourth Way community in Austin, Texas, for twenty-two years. As the teachings began to change his life, he began writing songs that reflected his experiences. On Sunday, September 13, Rusty will share his transformative journey through story and song.

Rusty has been writing songs since 1989. In 2009, he teamed up with Sue Young to form the Folk/Americana duo Young & Rusty. They have released two CDs that have charted with folk DJs throughout the U.S. and Canada, and they are currently working on a third project.

Diversity IS the Norm

Currently there is a backlash against Diversity. But in All of Reality, Diversity IS the norm. Religion, at its best, helps us deal with our Ongoing Diversity Realities.
Rev. John Pepper is happily retired from both corporate America and the Federal Government. He enjoys speaking at small churches and helping out with his own home church, the Unitarian Fellowship of Houston. John and his husband, Randy Joiner, enjoy travelling to Shreveport and Mississippi to see many loved family members, and vacationing wherever the urge takes them.

Faith in the Time of the Mad King

As Unitarian Universalists, we focus on social justice and what action we can take. However, in these times of waking up each day to unsettling reports of unimaginable cruelty and corruption, it's easy to lose faith. We cannot afford to lose faith and succumb to despair. We must take care of ourselves so we can continue our fight for justice. Our spiritual practices are more important than ever during these times. Let's explore some of those practices and remind ourselves how our faith has brought us through difficult times before and can sustain us now.

Cheryl Sanders Henry retired from a career in corporate Human Resources. Her career included teaching high school English, managing Training and Development at the Department of Public Works in the City of Houston, and finally, managing Training and Development in the Goodyear Chemical Division. She was an active member of the UU Fellowship in Galveston for 16 years. She is now a member of the Bay Area UU Church in Clear Lake and in July began serving as president of the Board of Directors. Cheryl and her husband Red live on Galveston Bay with their three dogs, Jackson, Charley, and Lola, and their almost-domesticated cat, CB.
