Name: Jena Myers

Did you grow up in the area?
I did. I grew up in Galveston, attended Galveston Elementary and graduated from Lewis Cass in 2013.

Where did you attend college?
I have my Associates of Science in Education from Ivy Tech and I’m currently working on getting my Bachelors of Science in Education at IUK.

How long have you been teaching?
I have taught at the preschool for 3 years.

How would you explain your teaching style?
My teaching style is more constructivist, where the children construct their own knowledge through self exploration and inquiry based learning.

What is your favorite thing to watch kids learn/figure out for themselves?
It’s always very exciting to watch students grow in their learning. Especially in areas they’ve been struggling in. That “ah-ha” moment is so fun to see.

What is your favorite activity to teach or have set out for the children to explore?
I enjoy watching the kids get excited when we have the shaving cream or finger painting out.

Please name some of your favorite books to read to preschoolers.
The Dr. Seuss books are always a fun read. I personally love the different holiday books, too.
