QUOTE! "WHAT AN AMAZING CHRIST! He never asks for our approval- only for faith to believe that He is at work when all is mystery. To put one's life in His hands is not to be led astray!"
HERE IS THE STORY behind the quote:
In his early 20s, Watkin Roberts went, alone, among the tribal head hunters in northeast India with the gospel. After only a short ministry the British Government made him leave. Some years later he was crippled with polio; and frankly he spent many years to some degree in a sadness, feeling like he had utterly failed in his missionary calling.
MANY MORE YEARS PASSED and one day, now an old man and crippled, Watkin Roberts climbed the steps to his apartment only to find a young east Indian fellow, waiting for him. He invited him into his apartment.
The story Roberts heard that day brought him to tears of indescribable joy! Watkin Roberts learned that,
THE FEW CONVERTS TO CHRIST FROM HIS BRIEF TIME IN INDIA HAD STAYED TRUE! Within two generations, the entire Hmar tribe was evangelized. HEAD-HUNTING STOPPED and ‘HEART-HUNTING’ transformed an entire tribe.
AND NOW, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, standing in his apartment was the son of that tribal pastor-- Rochunga Pudaite
AND THAT SON, sent by his father, at age 10 or 11, had traveled alone almost 100 miles through a jungle of tigers, elephants, bears, and man-eating python snakes… in order to go to school-- ultimately, because his pastor-father knew that their tribal people NEEDED THE BIBLE IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE!
Rochunga Pudaite, ultimately came to the USA and graduated from Wheaton College and had just translated the New Testament into the Humar language... and now he sat with Watkin Roberts, who many years earlier had risk his life to come to their tribe to share the gospel!
Upon learning these amazing testimonies of the saving grace of God, it is reported that Watkin Roberts got up out of his chair, hobbled toward a window, looked out... then turned around and in tears of joy PROCLAIMED:
"What an amazing Christ!
He never asks for our approval!
Only for faith to believe that
He is at work when all is mystery.
To put one's life in His hands is
not to be led astray!"
INDEED!
