🚨 NEW SERIES ALERT 🚨 -- Tonight, our high school students are kicking off a series titled iWonder - and let's face it, science and faith don't always seem like they can coexist. And what should your high school students do when they feel the tension between the two? Do they have to choose between using their brain or building their faith? In this series, we will discover together how to seek answers for the things we wonder about while continuing to be filled with wonder about a God who goes beyond our understanding. Figuring out how to love God with all of your mind doesn't have to be a mystery anymore. In fact, we'll learn that embracing your intellect by exploring science might just be one of the best ways to expand your students' faith.

Stories from ASP:

"We served breakfast to everyone for our chores after devotionals, then got our supplies and headed out to [the homeowner's] home to continue working. We finished the front and back decks. Got the roof to about 95% completed and foam installed on backside of home and j-channel completed around the home (it holds the foam in place before vinyl siding goes up). It was brutally hot today but everyone stayed hydrated and positive and fostered great teamwork. After cleaning up and going back to Christ's Hands (our home base) to change for the lake and to have our bbq put on by ASP staff. We had a blast cooling off in the lake and swimming together. We just got home and took showers before bed. tomorrow is our last day..."

Tomorrow, these ASP students and leaders wrap up their service and will be headed home. Continue to pray they make a difference in this last 24 hours!

Stories from ASP:

"Today was a long hot day for the group. We started out with morning devotionals, breakfast and loading up the vans with supplies. Our homeowner prayed over us again today and is doing better since coming back from hospital. We broke into 3 groups and made some serious headway on the home and also ran into more issues but have another game plan to get and stay on track. The decks are almost all completed and roof is about 90% complete. We had the ASP building compliance guy come and agree with our decisions and give us approval to continue. After completing our day of work we came back for dinner and more education about the community and poverty here in the Appalachian mountains. Once daily chores were completed we went back to Dairy Hut for more ice cream and fellowship. Everyone is doing great and working well with each other."
-Shaun McCarty

Continue to pray for these students and leaders as they serve this community well! Pray that lives would be changed this week and good work accomplished for the people of Harlan, KY.

Stories from ASP:

"ASP has been fantastic so far! On top of really furthering our construction projects, we’ve been exploring the town of Harlan, making lots of new friendships within the NorthField crew and also the community, and all in all enjoying the week.

In our group, so far we’ve made amazing progress on our project, found a snow cone van, ate lunch in a nice park, made friends with hardware stores and many animals, and didn’t board Bill Jacoby up in the floors. "

Stories from ASP:
Day 1:

"First day “on the job” and after trying to trouble shoot some subfloor support issues we determined we needed another tool not on the original list. So we packed up the van and made the 20 minute drive back to the warehouse. GPS sent us to some random house instead of the assumed home base. Trying to get our bearings, we drove in and out of neighborhoods with no cell signal whatsoever, we finally made it back to the warehouse. But we were locked out and had no one on site to let us in to the building to get more tools. Eventually we got a hold of someone who gave us the code to get in and get the jig saw. Making our way back to our project house it was about 11:30am by this point. So we felt as if we lost a half a day. Surprisingly we were able to make some serious headway on our two main projects and actually came out ahead of schedule for the week so far.

Long story short, the ability to adapt seems to be way more beneficial than just being able to execute a theoretical plan. Our plan is usually just an idea where His plan almost always requires some adaptation and the willingness to accept it. So we accepted the changes and rolled with a new strategy which turned out to be a great start to the week."
-Jon Harris

Our ASP crews are off to a great start, helping the communities they are joining for the week. We wan't wait to hear more of the amazing stories that are sure to come out of this week. Stay tuned!

“When it comes to the giants we may face, often times we think if we prepare ourselves enough we can slay our giants. But the story of David and Goliath is a depiction of the way that Jesus fights our battles FOR us - He is the champion that will go before us.”
