🙏 ¿Sabías que la Madre Teresa tenía una “Novena de emergencia”?

Ante situaciones difíciles o momentos de urgencia, Santa Teresa de Calcuta recurría a una sencilla pero poderosa oración a la Virgen María, a la que llamó la “Novena de emergencia” (Flying Novena).

A diferencia de las novenas tradicionales, que se rezan durante nueve días, la santa rezaba diez veces el “Memorare” o “Acordaos” en un mismo día. Lo hacía para pedir ayuda en situaciones como la enfermedad de una persona, conversaciones importantes o incluso cuando se agotaban las provisiones para las Misioneras de la Caridad.

Según Mons. Leo Maasburg, amigo y consejero espiritual de la santa, la Madre Teresa rezaba un décimo Memorare en acción de gracias, confiando de antemano en la ayuda de la Virgen.

Esta práctica reflejaba la profunda confianza que tenía en la intercesión de María. Para la Madre Teresa, acudir a ella en medio de las dificultades era una manera sencilla de poner cada necesidad en manos de Dios.

Cada 5 de septiembre, la Iglesia Católica celebra a Santa Teresa de Calcuta.

Teresa de Calcuta nació el 26 de agosto de 1910 en Skopje, actual Macedonia (en ese entonces, parte de Albania). Fue bautizada como Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. ‘Agnes’, que en español es ‘Inés’, significa ‘pura’ o ‘santa’; mientras que ‘Gonxha’ significa ‘capullo de rosa’ o ‘pequeña flor’.

Un 7 de octubre de 1950, fiesta de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, se estableció oficialmente la nueva congregación de las Misioneras de la Caridad. Pero ahí no quedaría todo. La Madre también fundó la rama contemplativa de las Hermanas, así como a los Hermanos Misioneros de la Caridad, los Hermanos Contemplativos, los Padres Misioneros de la Caridad, los Colaboradores de Madre Teresa, y los Colaboradores Enfermos y Sufrientes. Asimismo inició el Movimiento Sacerdotal Corpus Christi.

En 1979, la Madre Teresa recibió el Premio Nobel de la Paz por su labor tendiendo puentes para acercar a pueblos y culturas. Ella, una mujer católica residente en un país de mayoría hindú y musulmana, había logrado unir a los pobladores de la India en torno a una causa común.

La Madre Teresa fue beatificada por su gran amigo San Juan Pablo II el 19 de octubre de 2003. La canonización llegó 13 años después, y fue realizada por el Papa Francisco con ocasión de la celebración del “Jubileo de los voluntarios y operarios de la misericordia”.

Pope St. Gregory the Great stands among the most influential figures in Church history. A pope, theologian, missionary leader, and Doctor of the Church, he helped guide both the Church and society through the challenges of the late sixth century. His leadership, writings, and example continue to shape Catholic life more than 14 centuries after his death.

Born in Rome around 540 into a wealthy and respected Christian family, he received a comprehensive education and entered public service. He served as prefect of Rome, one of the city’s highest civil offices. Yet worldly success did not satisfy him. After his father’s death, Gregory distributed much of his wealth, transformed his family home into a monastery, and became a monk.

Gregory’s wisdom and talents soon led the Church to call him to greater responsibilities. He served as a papal ambassador to Constantinople before being elected pope in 590. Although he preferred the quiet life of a monk, he accepted the office out of obedience and reverence for God’s Will.

As pope, Gregory cared deeply for the poor and worked to ensure that Church resources were used to assist those suffering from disease, famine, and war. He organized a structure to produce and deliver food to the people. It is said he would not eat until the people were fed.

He reformed Church administration, strengthened pastoral care, and encouraged bishops to be faithful shepherds of their people. His missionary vision led him to send St. Augustine of Canterbury and his companions to evangelize the Anglo-Saxons in England, a mission that would have a lasting impact on Christianity in the British Isles and beyond.

Gregory was also a prolific writer. His works on pastoral leadership, prayer, Scripture, and the spiritual life became classics of Christian literature. He is credited with giving the Church the Gregorian Chant, and many of his liturgical reforms are used in today’s liturgies. His humility was evident in the title he preferred for himself: “Servant of the Servants of God.”

St. Gregory died in 604 and was later declared a Doctor of the Church. Known as “Gregory the Great,” he remains a model of wise leadership, pastoral charity, and faithful service to Christ.

🙏🏻 Hoy la Iglesia celebra a San Gregorio Magno, Papa, monje y Doctor de la Iglesia, recordado por su sencillez y por entender su autoridad como un servicio. Fue el primer monje en ocupar la Sede de Pedro y adoptó como principio el título de “siervo de los siervos de Dios”.

Durante su pontificado, entre los años 590 y 604, trabajó por la evangelización de nuevos pueblos, promovió el diálogo con distintos gobernantes y fortaleció la vida monástica. También impulsó la renovación de la liturgia y del canto cristiano, dando origen a una tradición musical que posteriormente sería conocida como canto gregoriano.

San Gregorio Magno vivió en una época marcada por crisis y grandes cambios, pero buscó llevar paz y esperanza a la Iglesia y a la sociedad. El Papa Benedicto XVI destacó que supo “crear paz y dar esperanza”, convirtiéndose así en un ejemplo de que la verdadera grandeza nace del servicio humilde a Dios y a los demás. 🙏🏻✨

The September Martyrs are a group of 191 faithful Christians who were martyred at the hands of the French Revolution on September 2 and 3, 1792.

After refusing to take an oath in support of the civil consititution of the clergy, an act condemned by the Vatican which placed Catholic priests under the authority and control of the state, these priests and religious brothers and sisters were imprisoned in a Carmelite convent and then massacred in the space of two days by bloodthirsty revolutionary mobs.

They were beatified on October 17, 1926 by Pope Pius XI.

Among the martyrs were Louis and Francis de la Rochefoucauld, the bishops of Saintes and Beauvais respectively, Apollinaris of Posat, John Francis Burte, Charles de la Calmette, Augustine Ambrose Chevreux, Andre Grasset de Saint Sauveur, John Mary de Lau, Severin Girault, Julian Massey, and Louis Barreau de la Touche.

St. Beatrice was born to Portuguese nobility in Cuerta, Portugal, in 1424. She was the daughter of the Count of Viana, and the sister of Saint Amadeus of Portugal. She was raised in the household of the future Queen Isabel of Portugal and spent some time in her royal court in Castile following the Queen's marriage to John II.

She soon got tired of the empty life at court and joined a Cistercian convent in Toledo. She lived at the convent until 1484, when she answered a summons from God to found a religious order. The Congregation of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary was begun, and with the help of the Queen, she founded a house outside of Toledo where she lived and served as superior until her death on September 1, 1490.

Saint Beatrice was canonized in 1976 by Pope Paul VI.
