Hello King/Burdette family members! I am Pam Van der Meulen, daughter of Lewis Burdette, who will be the reunion president the next two years. We had 98 members in attendance this year - let's try to get over 100 next year!

I wanted to let everyone know that Scott Burdette has agreed to be the first vice president. Thank you Scott! We are still looking for a second and third vice president. If you, or someone in your family, are interested, please let me know.

In 2026, we will be celebrating the grandchildren of Beda and William Burdette. If anyone has any photos of that branch of the family, that would be awesome! Please send them to me so that I can use them for the bulletin next year. I would also be interested in hearing stories from that branch of the family. It would be great if anyone would be willing to share those stories at the reunion too - it means so much when shared by someone who experienced the events or have heard the story growing up.

In addition, I was wondering if anyone, including your children or grandchildren, plays an instrument or sings and would be willing to play/sing at the reunion. I have really enjoyed it in the past when that has happened.

Finally, please let me know if you have any suggestions for future reunions - also, please let me know what you feel works well (so we don't change those items). We want to keep the reunion interesting and growing.

You can contact Pam via email at [email protected]

Thank you,
Pam Van der Meulen

All King-Burdette Family members,

It is with a very sad and heavy heart that I post this.

After hearing from our committee last night, after speaking with past Reunion presidents, with the current restrictions in place by Montgomery County and the Wesley Grove United Methodist Church, and with (and most importantly) considering the needs and safety of the majority, I have come to the unfortunate decision that we will cancel the 87th Annual King-Burdette family reunion for 2021, for the second year in a row.

Please know that this is not an easy decision and one that has been on my mind for the last two+ weeks, since the COVID-19 variant starting shaking our country up again.

The absolute last thing that I want to have happen is someone in our family contract COVID from another family member and then becomes gravely ill and/or dies or passes it on to someone else and the same thing happens to them. Unlike the flu, the COVID virus is so new and unique that we really don't know and understand everything about it.

All of you, no matter your age, mean more to me and I believe each other, and your safety and wellbeing has to be paramount and at the forefront. Additionally, we have to respect the guidance and restrictions currently in place and although I never did get a chance to connect with Pastor Karen, I am sure she would ask us to do the same.

Our reunion committee worked hard this year to try and make this happen and I am so sorry that it cannot.

Please have a great summer, stay safe and I look forward to seeing everyone next year.

I would ask that you please forward this message on to your respective families and help us get the word out about this as quickly as possible.
