The term 'opponent' as used by Paul includes those who malign the gospel and are disarmed by leaders who live out sound doctrine impeccably. When believers live authentically, they silence critics by their actions. Essential practices include demonstrating good works (Titus 2:7), teaching with seriousness and sound speech (Titus 2:7-8), and conducting oneself in a manner that yields no criticism (Titus 2:8). The objective is to invalidate criticisms, demonstrate the gospel's transformative power, and adorn the doctrine of God through honorable behavior (Titus 2:10).
