Fairview Cemetery will be acquiring military markers/flag holders for all veterans in the cemetery including those without military headstones. I set a sample of the new military marker next to a flag that had been placed for Memorial Day, What a difference! Can you imagine how stunning the cemetery will look wheen we have more than 2000 of these?

The biological cleaner works over time. Rain and wind help clear the headstone. This is how Addington's stone looked today. I think it will be beautiful by Memorial Day! At the bottom of the inscription it says, "His last words was [sic] tell my mother I fell for her. Tell her I will meet her in Heavin [sic]." I love that we can read his own words!!

William H H Addington is the only casualty of the Civil War buried in Fairview. He is located in Division 4. I am beginning to clean his headstone. Here's how it looked when I started. Can you read his inscription?

Valley Creek Church sponsored a clean up event at Fairview Cemetery. Youth from the NCTC women's softball team and men's baseball team showed up in droves. The men reset headstones that were leaning, and even fallen. The women cleaned biological growth from headstones. They focused on Division 4, and the results are amazing!!

Arthur Galusha was born in New York. His mother died in 1918, and the four youngest children were sent by the Orphan Train to Texas. The children went to different homes. Arthur was adopted by Hiel and Margaret Parmley. He was the only one raised with his original surname. Arthur was a U. S. Army veteran serving from 1937 to 1939. He was later a maintenance man at Gainesville ISD. As you can see, he has no military marker, so he has never been honored for his military service.

Gerry Murrell was one of the founders of the Gainesville Community Circus. She loved horses and was a member of the Hobby Horse Club and a contributor to the Shetland Pony Journal. She was known as "The Girl on the White Horse" for her performances in the Gainesville Community Circus. After her death an elephant at the Frank Buck Zoo was named Gerry in her honor.
