(1)

Located on historic Green Street near downtown Gainesville, FBC is a welcoming congregation that seeks to honor God through active learning, service, and worship. Our mission is that of Christ's: inclusive of all, redemptive in message, gracious in approach, loving in spirit. We believe it is as important to feed the hungry and care for "the least of these" as it is to seek to bring people into th

e life of faith. We faithfully engage in mission experiences without regard to denominational ties. We believe that one of the best ways to reflect Christ's love is by expressing our Christian love to people in need. As an active member of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, FBC honors historic Baptist principles, are ecumenical in nature, and community-minded in practice.

We have been strategically cleaning exterior portions of the church property, with the biggest project being the Family Life Center - cleaning off 40+ years of dirt is a welcome addition alongside other recent interior FLC improvements.

The Family Life Center ministry is a great place to focus on your health in a safe, encouraging environment AND a great place to make friends & build community. If you want to learn more about how the FLC can minister to your whole family visit our website below.

This week, Louise Evans will turn 101 years old… and she has been a part of First Baptist her entire life.

Louise came forward for membership and baptism at just 8 years old during a revival service—meaning she has been a member of our church family for over 93 years. According to our history committee, she is likely our oldest living member and currently has the longest continuous membership. She still attends services every Sunday and is an active member of the Winsome Sunday School class (pictured with her).

For 40 years, Louise faithfully served as a greeter for members and visitors. She still cherishes the close relationships and connections she made while serving. She even learned to sew through a church quilting group, where (in her words) they “had more fun!” Some of her quilts will be on display during our 200th Anniversary celebration on August 15 & 16.

Her advice for a long life? Stay busy, don’t sit around feeling sorry for yourself, and do things you enjoy. For her, that’s yard work—she says it’s her therapy. She also loves watching Atlanta Braves Baseball. And she’ll tell you how grateful she is for her children, Deborah and Tommy, who take such good care of her.

If you think about it… our church has been around for 200 years, and Louise has been here for 101 of those years. That’s something worth celebrating.

As we celebrate 200 years at First Baptist Gainesville, we’re reminded that our story isn't just about a building but the people who have worshipped in it.

We hope you’ll join us August 15 & 16 for a fun weekend celebrating 200 years of FBC!
