Our recent America250 delivery to Bread of the Mighty Food Bank was featured in The Independent Florida Alligator! We loved being able to lend support to such a worthy cause!

A group of about 20 volunteers and leaders watched in anticipation as the red, white and blue semi-truck imprinted with the words “Just Serve” rolled onto Northwest 10th Avenue.

Yesterday, in Gainesville, FL, we received an America250 semitruck with up to 40,000 lbs of shelf-stable food to our local Bread of the Mighty Food Bank! These food donations are the result of many generously giving and praying for the needs of all of God's children. In 2nd Corinthians 9:11-14 (NIV) we read:

"You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else."

Bread of the Mighty received 40,000 pounds of food from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through its America250 initiative.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is collaborating with America250 in sending 250 semitrucks to deliver food donations to 250 food banks across all 50 states. 🎉 We are SO excited to learn that one of these semi-trucks will be making its way here to our Gainesville Bread of the Mighty on September 3rd!! 🎉

Each year, the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance unites tens of thousands of volunteers across the country to "Never Forget." It transforms the anniversary of 9.11 into a powerful force for good honoring those we lost and the compassion shown in the aftermath by serving others.

For the 25th anniversary, volunteers in 50 cities will pack more than 20 million meals for individuals and families facing food insecurity. Join us in Florida by honoring the legacy of 9.11 Day by serving others and strengthening our communities.

Today local leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints brought a gift to Zion Lutheran Church, to congratulate the congregation on completion of their new worship sanctuary on 16th Blvd. in Gainesville, FL, just a few blocks from one of our chapels. Pastor Brian Wrobel received this arrangement from Teresa Bruggeman, president of the women’s organization in our area. The bright flowers are appropriate to the celebration of the new building, which will be dedicated at 10:30 am on Sunday. But underneath is a prayer plant that will continue to thrive and grow after the flowers have withered.

Last Thursday, Bishop Grant Cooper of our Loblolly Ward offered the invocation at the Gainesville City Commission Meeting. This morning President Sam Loosli, second counselor in the Gainesville Florida Stake, gave the invocation at the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners Meeting. We are grateful for the opportunity to ask for divine guidance as our local government leaders make decisions that affect the lives of all in our area.

On Saturday, August 1, the Gainesville Florida FamilySearch Center hosted a booth at the HOMOWO-AFI festival in Gainesville’s historic Monteocha neighborhood. The festival is a tradition from Ghana. FamilySearch Directors Greg and Kathy Self had conversations with people who expressed interest in tracing their family tree.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced $2.8 million in relief projects with the Adventist Development and Relief Agency, Project HOPE and Catholic Relief Services to help earthquake victims in Venezuela.

The Church is working with Adventist Development and Relief Agency, Project Hope and Catholic Relief Services for a combined total of $2.8 million in support for those in need in Venezuela after two deadly earthquakes.

Sam Rudd of Gainesville recently returned from two years serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, assigned to the Utah Salt Lake City South Mission. He reported divine help in changing himself, being able to talk with lots of different people. “No matter how many hard things I went through, I was still able to help others,” he said. A graduate of dual enrollment at Santa Fe College, he hopes to pursue building construction management at the University of Florida.
