SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT. On the auspicious occasion of Chokhor Duchen (the anniversary of Shakyamuni Buddha’s first teaching), which this year falls on August 1st, 2022, we are pleased to offer the opportunity for Gompa member-supporters to send offerings and dedications to Sakya Tharig monastery, Kathmandu, Nepal, in support of the ‘Sixteen Arhats Ritual’, to be performed on August 1st, 2022. The merit of any good deeds performed during Chokhor Duchen is considered to be multiplied many times. You are cordially invited to participate. Offerings, together with dedications, can be sent at any time up until August 1st, 2022.
The Event:
It is said that the Buddha himself selected the Sixteen Arhats from amongst his disciples and requested them to protect the Dharma. At the time of the Buddha’s parinirvana they vowed to remain in the world and maintain the Dharma until the time of the future Buddha Maitreya. This puja, ‘The Wish-fulfilling Gem Enhancing the Buddha’s Teachings’, a method for making offerings and prayers to Shakyamuni Buddha and the Sixteen Arhats, is said to bring special blessings for long life and to quickly generate merit.
This practice is dedicated to the flourishing of the Dharma and world peace, to the wellbeing of all sentient beings, the pacification of malevolent forces, the removal of illnesses and obstacles, and the fulfilment of all positive wishes.
