Yesterday Pastor Brian reminded us that "Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay."

As we examined the life of Samson, we saw how his sin took him further than just finding a Philistine wife. His weakness for women and lust and his blindness to sin carried him all the way to grinding grain in a Gazan prison, keeping him in bo***ge for longer than he ever anticipated. The cost was far more than he ever intended to pay - the cost of his own life.

If we aren't washing ourselves daily with the Word of God and keeping in fellowship with Him, we become complacent and even comfortable in our trespasses. We mustn't quench the Holy Spirit, but instead call on His guidance in all things.

From the falling walls of Jericho in the Old Testament, to the faith of the Disciples in the New, we see the overarching theme that the power of faith does not lie in human strength or perfectly polished belief. The power lies in the living God who stands behind one’s faith.

When Jesus tells His followers that faith like a mustard seed can move mountains (or crumble walls!), He is emphasizing that the power of God has no limits, even when working through those with just a small amount of faith. Amazing things happen when we put our hope, faith, and trust in Him!

Yesterday we examined the life of Joshua and how small acts of faith prepared him for one great act of faith in the defeat of Jericho.

Heroism isn’t what the world says it is. The world tells us it comes through self-reliance, self-righteousness, and inner strength. But Scripture shows us that true heroism comes from God, and is built through small acts of obedience and faith in HIS power.

Joshua began as a servant to Moses, faithfully obeying God long before anyone knew his name. He remained faithful when no one was watching (Exodus 17), when it wasn’t popular (Exodus 32), and when it didn’t make sense (Joshua 6).

And before the walls of Jericho ever fell, Joshua was first filled with the Spirit of God (Deuteronomy 34). He knew victory would never come through his own strength alone.

How is your faith when it’s not public, popular, or logical?

"God supports those whose heart is completely his" 2 Chronicles 16:9

Last Sunday, we studied the life of King Asa and how he slowly drifted from God toward the end of his reign. In an attempt to call him back, the prophet Hanani offered correction, but unfortunately, Asa refused to listen.

This message is a reminder to surrender fully to the Lord each day so that we can finish strong and remain on the path of life.

Are we teachable? How do we respond to godly correction?
