What is LOGOS?
Rooted in Acts 2:42, LOGOS is a weekly intergenerational experience where young people and congregation members of all ages learn, grow, and practice the art of Christian relationships together, nurturing life-long disciples of Jesus Christ. 🌱

Who is LOGOS for?
🐣 Children 3 years – PreK & their families: Alleluia Choir, Bible story time, recreation & family dinner
📚 Grades K–12: Full schedule including recreation, bell choir for older youth, and more!
🙌 Parents & congregation members: Prayerfully consider how your gifts can help sustain this ministry!

🎵 What a Beautiful Morning!

Thank you to everyone who submitted a favorite hymn for our Hymn Sing Service! Your responses made Sunday truly special - filling our sanctuary with beloved melodies, cherished memories, and voices lifted together in praise. 🙏

Our Ministries Are Back! 🎉

As we usher in the new year, we’re excited to start a new season of ministry programs! Here are the ministries starting back this month:

🍽️ College Café – Started Sunday, August 23rd: College students are invited to join us in the serving room through Gordon Hall for a home-cooked lunch immediately following worship.

🤝 Young Adult & Family Ministries – Meetings once a month. Contact Fred Lundy at [email protected]

📚Adult Sunday School - Meetings year round on Sunday with two classes available. Gordon Hoover class meets in the Library at 9:30 am OR go to the Multiply Class that meets at 9:45 am in Room 201.

📖 Trajectory College Bible Study – Starting Tuesday, Sept 1st: College students, we’ll be diving into scripture together. Join us!

📚 LOGOS – Starting Wednesday, August 26th: LOGOS is an after-school ministry designed to nurture children and youth in Christian discipleship. Every Wednesday from 3:30 to 6:45 PM, we gather for intentional learning, fellowship, and worship.

🎶 Choirs and Handbell Choirs – Starting Weds August 26th at LOGOS: All children and youth choirs, along with the Jubilate Ringers (advanced bell choir), will begin rehearsals.

🔔 Chancel Choir & Carol Ringers – Starting Thursday, August 20th: The Chancel Choir is an adult choir that sings in Sunday worship, while Carol Ringers is an adult bell group for beginners and intermediate ringers. Both rehearse on Thursday.

Have you ever wanted to try handbells? Now's your chance! Join us for a fun and festive Bell Day featuring a hands-on workshop AND special handbell music during worship!

🔔 Ringing for the First Time Workshop
⏰ 10:15 – 10:45 a.m.
Led by Andrew Netardus
No prior music experience needed, just bring your curiosity! Try your hand at handbells in a welcoming, no-pressure setting.

🎶 Worship Service with Special Handbell Music
⏰ 11:00 a.m. - noon
Members of First Presbyterian's handbell ensembles, along with workshop participants who want to keep ringing, will provide special music during worship.

This is a wonderful morning for all ages! Invite your friends and family to join in the fun!

A new school year is almost here and we want to begin it together, in prayer! Join us this Sunday as we gather to pray over our schools, students, families, teachers, and everyone involved in the start of a new academic year.

Whether you're heading into kindergarten or college, teaching a classroom, or sending a child off with a packed lunch and a hopeful heart, this service is for you. Come seek God's blessings and guidance as we step into a new season together. 🙏

🏕️ Pray for students attending The Mount Retreat

This weekend, August 7–9, first-year students from the University of Florida and Santa Fe College will gather at Southwind YoungLife Camp in Ocklawaha, Florida for the 8th Annual Mount Retreat!

Over three days, these incoming students will experience teachings, worship, scriptural study, community building, and intentional time with counselors and fellow classmates — all centered on the Gospel and the glory of God.

Please join us in praying for them as they go:
We pray that this retreat can be a time of spiritual discernment for our incoming students, the start of a renewed and strengthened faith. We pray that this can be a time of fellowship, where lasting relationships are built between them and our local churches, campus ministries, and their fellow students. Finally, and most importantly, we pray that all that is said and done at this retreat might be said and done to the glory of God and of our Lord Jesus Christ.

May this weekend mark the beginning of a deep and lasting faith for each student who attends. ✝️🏕️

☀️ Summer Staff Highlights!

Our staff had a wonderful summer - and we love getting a peek into their lives outside of church! Here's a little of what they were up to:

📸 Jenny Chamberlain, Communications Specialist cheered on her husband Tom as he performed with the Gainesville Community Band at the Fireworks - and spotted fellow staff member Andrew Netardus singing with them too! She also welcomed her mom for a visit and celebrated the 4th of July in St. Augustine, touring the fort and the Alligator Farm. 🐊

📸 Lisa Hershkowitz, Preschool Director and her husband Jeff made a stop at the famous Whistle Stop Café in Juliette, GA and enjoyed a classic Varsity lunch on their way to their property in Rome, GA. They also celebrated their 19th anniversary and welcomed a new puppy, Jasper! 🐾

📸 Fred Lundy, Young Adults & Families Director kept it close to home with the Lundy family's beloved tradition of Sunday night pickleball all summer long! 🏓

📸 Mitch Rorick, Director of Music and Organist took his swing to the next level at TopGolf in Columbus, OH! ⛳

📸 Pastor Mark Hults made a meaningful visit to the grave of our church's first pastor, traveling with Don Caton to find and pay his respects at this special piece of our congregation's history. ✝️

📸 Andrew Netardus, Event Sexton and Music Clerk made his annual trip to Montreat - and even found time to sing with the Gainesville Community Band at the Fireworks back home! 🎶

What a summer! We are so grateful for this incredible staff and all they bring to our church family. 🙏

Beginning this Sunday, Pastor Mark Hults will guide us through three of Scripture's greatest wisdom books — Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Job — one per week, over three Sundays. Together we'll explore what the Bible's wisdom literature reveals about the human search for meaning, fulfillment, and what it truly means to live well.

Whether life feels steady or uncertain right now, these ancient texts speak with surprising relevance to our everyday lives. Come with your questions and an open heart! 🙏
