Every believer knows what it feels like to live in the tension between desire and reality — wanting to do what is right, yet stumbling in weakness. The apostle Paul names that tension with striking honesty in Romans 7. He describes the battle within: the pull of the flesh, the frustration of repeated failure, and the cry for deliverance that rises from a weary heart. It is a passage that resonates deeply because it reflects our own spiritual experience.
But Paul does not leave us in the struggle. Romans 8 opens with a declaration that changes everything: “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” What follows is one of the most powerful chapters in Scripture—a sweeping vision of life in the Spirit, adoption into God’s family, hope in suffering, and unshakeable assurance in the love of Christ. Romans 7 shows us the battle. Romans 8 shows us the victory.
This series, From Struggle to Spirit: The Journey Into Freedom, invites us to walk that path together. We will move from the honesty of our inner conflict to the freedom the Spirit gives. We will discover what it means to be children of the Father, sustained by hope even in our groaning. And we will stand on the mountain-top of assurance, hearing Paul proclaim that nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
This is not a series about trying harder. It is a series about living in the power of the Spirit. It is not about hiding our struggle. It is about letting God transform it. And it is not about fear, guilt, or condemnation. It is about freedom, identity, hope, and victory.
As we journey through these passages, may God lead us from the struggle we know so well into the freedom He longs to give — a freedom rooted grace, sustained by the Spirit, and secured by the love of Christ.
