Vineyard ReCovery Church Mission statement: "Every One Is Important"

We are about Jesus. Plain and simple. We meet every Saturday at 7 p.m. 419 Broad Street in Gadsden.

We believe that everyone who walks in relationship with Jesus Christ has been afforded the presence and the power of His Holy Spirit. As such, we want to exercise the gifting and love of God by being a people of action and risk. Step #12 of the twelve steps speaks of "taking the message to others." Part of our message includes the demonstration of God's power to those who would receive.

Hi everyone -- Josh here. Just thought it was a good time to share another throwback from the Greene Street Letters. This is Dad's entry on this day back in 2014 -- and it still speaks. Love you all.

The Day I Went To The Moon

I'll never forget the first time I laid eyes on her....

Standing there in the heat of a July sun, she had all the lines that just seemed to scream "fast". Constructed of the finest materials, she stood there like some wild mustang, chomping at the bit to be turned loose so she could do what she was created to do. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever have imagined that I would get to take part in this incredible adventure, but here it was all right there in front of me.

I was going to the moon.

The time was 1960. I was 8 years old and the space race had blasted off with strange names like Sputnik and Echo. Man made objects that raced across the night sky, drawing our eyes to the heavens to marvel at them. As for me, a young boy from Gallant, Alabama...it was my time. I was going to the moon.

I climbed aboard the Astro-liner 1, taking my place in the specially designed chair that would enable me to stand the G-force that was sure to come when we lifted off.

The Command Module Pilot made his way to the seat, hands moving across the control panel, making last minute adjustments for our flight. Then over the loud-speaker came the countdown. 10.....9......8....my heart was racing....5.....4.....3 ...what is something went wrong and we didn't return from our flight....2.....1....too late now....0.....ignition......the cabin shuttered and vibrated as if it had been grasped by some giant hand and was being shaken.....lift off. The vibrations increased and we slowly lifted off from the launch pad.

We were on our way. The rocket begin to move to an awkward angle........45 degrees.....90 degrees....on the view screen in front of the cabin, I saw clouds racing by as we climbed higher and higher. Blue sky gave way to the inky darkness that was space. I was going to the moon. Stars filled the screen and seem to zip by with such speed that I knew our trip would not take long.

I was going to the moon.

Truth be known, it was an amusement ride. But it was real to me. It would be as close to a journey to the moon as I would ever come. But it was real to an eight year old boy.

Sometimes, we treat recovery from addiction like that amusement ride I took back in 1960. We go through all the motions of going to meetings.

Reading the big book.
Having an accountability partner and a sponsor.
We memorize all the steps and can quote them at the drop of a hat.

But because our heart hasn't become engaged in the process....
Because we are merely going through the motions physically but not engaged spiritually...we are no closer to a real life of sobriety than I was to the moon when I climbed aboard that ride.

I don't want a life that is plastic and fake and just appears to be doing well. I want the real-deal life that only Jesus, the true Higher Power, can give to me. I want Him to do for me what I could not do for myself.

I love the verse from II Corinthians 12, where the apostle Paul is talking about his struggles and how he is so tired from the fight that he wants to give up. God speaks to Paul and tells him...."My grace is all you need My power works best in you weakness." SO now I am glad to boast about my weakness, so that Power of Christ may work through me.

Don't settle for a fake recovery. One that is merely a game played to appease those around you.

Lay hold of the real deal.
Lay hold of this Jesus and let Him lay hold of you....

It will be the journey of a lifetime.

God on you..

The Touch That Gives

In the book of Romans Chapter one, we read "For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established----"

The impartation of truth is a huge part of Scripture.
One person sharing and giving to another what God has freely given to them.
It isn't magic.
It isn't something mystical....
It is God at work.

Why is it when we humans can't define what it is God is doing, we call it mystical or supernatural? When God is the one implementing his plans and empowerment among humanity...
it is very natural.

That is God's nature, to give away to those who are seeking him.
Does He not say in Matthew 6:33 "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you."
Translated: God will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the kingdom of God your primary concern.

It is my aim, here on this blog to give to you...
To impart to you....
Through words....
What God has given to me.

Understand that I am the least in this equation.
It isn't about me.
IT is about us and God.

I have to find truth for my own life, because society bombards us with false messages everyday.

"Live this way!"
"Buy this and you'll be a better person!"
"Do what feels good!"
All lies from the father of lives, the devil.

SO what is the gift I wish to give today?
Something I read this morning in my Recovery Bible.

At the heart of the gospel is the truth that God is bigger than our past.
In other words, it doesn't matter what you have done in your past,
You are not beyond God's forgiveness and salvation.
There is no pit so deep that God is not deeper.
There is no darkness so strong that God cannot overcome.
There is no life so far gone that God cannot redeem.

God is in the reclamation business.
Reclaiming broken lives and hearts to heal and restore.
Receive this word today and let it resonate in your heart.
I needed to be reminded of this truth.

Sometimes the events and situations that we face can almost overwhelm us and suffocate us. But God will bring truth that will lift us out of these places of death and bring life to us.

Let that be for you today.
Life.
God life.
Real life.

Oh yeah...
One more thing.....

Merry Christmas!
For unto you this day is born in the city of David, a Savior....Christ the Lord!

God on you....

Hi everyone! We will continue to share Dad's thoughts through this page and ask that you continue to pray for him and for Mom.

Here is the Greene Street Letter from November 8, 2010. As relevant today as it was 13 years ago.

On Your Mark...Get Set......GO!
"In The Beginning......God.....

The Bible opens with these words...."In the beginning, God
When time began...When the first second of the first minute of the first hour of the first day ticked....God was there.

And it was from this beginning that everything we know, understand, see, touch, taste, hear, and smell had its birth. God was there to speak it into existence. What power! That the very words that came forth had the ability to create molecular levels of power which, when bonded together, created the things we now take for granted.

God was there....
God is always there.

Not only at the beginning, but in the middle as well as at the end.
He cannot be outlasted by anyone or anything. Even during Jesus' temptation in the wilderness, Scripture reads that the devil left him for a more opportune time. In other words, Jesus simply outlasted the devil. To me, that is a great comfort to know that my Savior does not grow weary or faint but "lives to make intercession for the saints.'

I take great comfort that no matter what is going on around me, Jesus is there. No matter what the pain and hurt my physical or mental state may be in, Jesus is there, and he isn't a passive bystander watching. He is constant contact with God the Father interceding on our behalf. No matter what my "beginning" is in my life..........there was God. No matter what your situation is today.....In the beginning of it, God was there and continues to be close.

Scripture reads where Jesus says, "I'll never forsake you or desert you." That means his presence is with us 24/7...365.

It is the devil that wants you to feel abandoned and alone.
It is he who desires to get you to take your focus off of God and turn it inward to your problems. If he can do that, then he can keep you in darkness and not seeking God for direction and strength.

Trust God today like you never have before.
Think on these things.....
