Midweek Reflection:
“And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.” — Acts 12:11 (KJV)
This past Sunday, we were reminded of a powerful truth from Acts 12:11: God is always in control.
When Peter was imprisoned, it looked like there was no way out. Humanly speaking, his situation seemed hopeless. Yet God sent an angel to deliver him, proving once again that no circumstance is beyond His power.
Throughout Scripture, we see this same truth repeated:
• Daniel was thrown into the lions’ den because he refused to stop praying, yet God shut the lions’ mouths (Daniel 6).
• Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were cast into the fiery furnace because they would not bow to an idol, yet God walked with them through the fire and brought them out unharmed (Daniel 3).
• Even Satan himself must operate within the limits God allows. Nothing takes place outside of God’s sovereign control.
One of the most important lessons from Daniel’s life is his confidence in God. Daniel trusted the Lord so completely that he was able to lie down and rest in the lions’ den. While danger surrounded him, his faith was greater than his fear.
Many times our perception becomes one of our greatest enemies. Some look at the storm, the trial, the temptation, or the uncertainty and begin to believe that God has lost control. But the Bible continually reminds us that God is still on the throne.
“The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:” — 2 Peter 2:9 (KJV)
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” — John 10:28 (KJV)
Trust Him. Rest in Him. He has never lost control, and He never will.
