Snow Hill Methodist Church was organized in 1858 as part of the Alabama Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in the Cedar Creek Circuit. Around 1857, a small frame building was erected at the plce where the present building stands. The land for the building was donated by Mrs Sarah Patton McCondichie. The congregation at that time included both white and blvk members, 115 bondsmen, designated as “servants”, are listed in the church register along with the families with whom they were associated. By 1881, the Church was ready for a new building and that summer materials were assembled for construction. By June 1882, the building was completed except for the painting. The new church was declared to be “an ornament to the community”. By the Wilcox News Pacificator. Proceeds from an i e cream, cake, and lemonade sale helped complete the building. When the town Furman adopted its new name , the Church also onserved the name of the Community. The Furman United Methodist Church was gifted once active operations ceased in the 1990s. Currently it is held by the Furman Methodist Church Historical Association for historical and preservation purposes.
