Narrative Resistance Manual

What if the greatest danger in Babylon was never the furnace? In this opening message through Daniel 1:1–21, Pastor John L. Widdifield begins a brand-new series titled “The Narrative Resistance Manual

Cult of the Penguin and Remnant Studios are proud to present “Carry Us Home” — one of those rare songs that feels less like it was written and more like it was recovered.

This song is dedicated to my mother, Katherine Widdifield, and my father, John Widdifield, who gave me something far greater than shelter. They gave me a home that was truly a reflection of heaven — a place of love, memory, faith, beauty, warmth, and holy belonging.

Born from a teaching on Chesterton, sacred memory, and the wreckage of a world that still carries traces of Eden, “Carry Us Home” rises with the longing of exile and the hope of homecoming.

It is not CCM. It is not religious wallpaper. It is a classic-rock hymn for the Remnant — a song for those still guarding the fire, still carrying the old songs, still believing that truth, beauty, mercy, worship, children, bread, wine, and the Word are sacred cargo worth protecting.

At its heart, this song remembers the gift of a true home — the kind that points beyond itself to the Father’s house, where all sorrow is healed, all wandering ends, and every faithful love is gathered up in glory.

Some songs entertain. Some songs inspire.

Every now and then, a song remembers.

In this sermon on John 16:1–15, Pastor John L. Widdifield explores one of the most stabilizing teachings of Jesus: believers are not fighting for victory—we are fighting from victory.

Jesus prepares His disciples for a world that will hate them, misunderstand them, and even persecute them while believing they are serving God. Yet He also declares a shocking verdict: “the ruler of this world is judged.”

Through the lens of the bronze serpent in Numbers 21, the cross, and the resurrection, this message explains how suffering sharpens spiritual sight and why the narrow way of Christ requires courage, clarity, and conviction.

This sermon addresses:

• Why Jesus warned His disciples about persecution

• What it means that “the ruler of this world is judged”

• How suffering forms disciples rather than defeating them

• Why the narrow way is rarely crowded

• How believers can live with clarity in a confused world

If you want to understand the world through the lens of the cross and learn what it means to stand firm in a judged world, this message will challenge and strengthen you.

Christ is King!

Dear Church Family,

This Sunday we will continue our journey through the Gospel of John with a message from John 16:16–33 titled:

“The True Knight King: Called to the King’s Table.”

In this passage Jesus tells His disciples something that at first sounds almost impossible:

“You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.”

The disciples are about to witness what appears to be the defeat of their King. The cross will look like the end of everything. Yet Jesus declares ahead of time that the story is about to turn—that sorrow itself will become the birthplace of joy.

This message explores that great reversal at the heart of the Gospel:

the King who conquers not by crushing His enemies, but by laying down His life…the King who turns sorrow into joy…the King who has already overcome the world.

We will also consider what this means for us today—especially for young men growing up in a world that often mocks courage, responsibility, and faithfulness.

Christ calls His followers to something far greater than the empty promises of our age. He calls us to take our place at the King’s table and live under the victory He has already won.

If you know a young man who needs encouragement, challenge, and direction, I strongly encourage you to invite him to join us this week.

I look forward to worshiping with you and opening the Scriptures together.

Grace and peace,

Pastor John L. Widdifield
