Sometimes the story feels like it’s falling apart — like the enemy's deceiving ways are wrinning. It seemed tha way with Joseph’s robe in Genesis 37. Torn. Misused. Dipped in deception. But even when people reject what God is doing, God is still advancing His plan.

Joseph’s brothers thought they were ending his story. But God was beginning a bigger one. God advances His redemptive plan through unexpected means including a messed up family and a rejected son.

If your life feels torn at the seams, take hope — the same God who worked through Joseph’s rejection to bring life and hope through Jesus is still workng today. He may be weaving together the redemption threads of your story today.

What others meant for harm, God has been using for good.

In Genesis 34–35 we’re reminded of a hard but necessary truth: compromise always costs more than we think. Jacob settled near Shechem — close enough to enjoy the benefits, far enough to feel “safe,” but still in a place God never told him to camp. And that breakdown in leadership set off a chain reaction of destruction, leading them to handle things in the flesh with vengeance instead of faith.

But then God calls Jacob back to Bethel — back to the place of surrender, worship, and obedience. And when Jacob moves away from Shechem and back toward God, everything changes.

You cannot live near sin, and walk closely with God at the same time.
One will always pull you away from the other.

Have you been living “near Shechem” — close to compromise, close to old patterns, close to what dulls your heart — then come back to the God who will restore what compromise has tried to destroy.

God confronts us with our past to transform us—to move us from brokenness to reconciliation.

Jacob finally faced his past and cried out for deliverance while admitting, “I am not worthy.” That’s where real transformation begins — when we stop running and confess our need for God.

Jacob sent gifts to appease Esau's anger and fix things with him, but the only gift that can truly erase our past is the blood of Jesus.

God wrestled Jacob into surrender, broke him to make him a new man… and then surprised him with reconciliation. Esau ran, embraced him, and wept. The acceptance Jacob received from Esau mirrored the acceptance he had just received from God.

That same path is open to you and I. If you’re done wrestling with God and people, then receive the gift God has already sent ahead of you so you could be accepted and reconciled to Him.

What an incredible day at Lake Isabella!
Three people publicly declared their faith in Jesus through baptism, and our church family got to celebrate every moment. The water was cold, but the joy was overflowing.

Tera Corpron, Dakota Simms, and Darcie Simms boldly testified to God’s grace in their lives and their faith in Jesus as their only hope and Savior. Then, in the waters of Lake Isabella, they went under—leaving the old life behind—and rose ready to walk in the new life they now have in Christ. What a powerful day of transformation and joy! Moments like these remind us why we gather, why we pray, and why we go.

God is moving, lives are being changed, and we give Him all the glory for what He is doing at UBC! God is writing beautiful stories in our church family.

Pray for our nation today during The National Day of Prayer.

"Father, strengthen our families, protect our children, and awaken hearts across this land to the hope found only in Jesus Christ. Turn us back to You in genuine humility, obedience, and faith. We pray for our leaders. Give them wisdom from you, courage to do what is right, and hearts that seek justice, righteousness, and truth. Remind them that authority is yours, and they are to steward it, not possess it. Lord, revive Your church in the U.S. Make us bold in the gospel, rich in love, steadfast in holiness, and unwavering in our commitment to Your Word. Let Your people shine as lights in a weary and divided world. And Father, we ask for Your mercy on our land. And let the name of Jesus be lifted high. Our hope is not in government, power, or politics — our hope is in You alone. May Your kingdom come, and Your will be done, with this nation as it is in heaven."

God is the One behind it all.
He opens the womb.
He prospers the work.
He protects and leads His people.
Not mandrakes.
Not sticks.
Not schemes.
Not human strength.

Jacob’s whole story shouts: Life, blessing, and rescue comes from the sovereign hand of God alone. What we see is never the whole story, and God is often doing His real work where our eyes cannot see.

When people deceive you, God sees.
When life feels out of control, God is working behind the scenes.
When you can’t produce life or fruit on your own, God can.

The God who was with Jacob is with us—trust the Shepherd who has already committed to leading you.
