Parishes, families, and individuals are encouraged to pray for healing, unity, and renewal as the United States prepares for the June 11 consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

You can participate through Holy Hours, volunteering, supporting local charities, helping families in need, tutoring children, serving at shelters, and more.

Here’s post about the story Fr. Alex told during his homily this weekend.

In the middle of violent protests in Myanmar in 2021, armed riot police moved toward a group of unarmed civilians — many of them young people and children.

Then one woman stepped forward.

Sister Ann Rose Nu Tawng, a Catholic nun from the Kachin community, walked directly into the street wearing nothing but her simple white habit and her faith.

She dropped to her knees.

Stretching out her arms before the rifles, she pleaded with the soldiers through tears:

“Shoot me instead! Don’t shoot the children!”

The armed officers froze.

Faced with one defenseless nun willing to die for others, they halted their advance.

The moment was captured in a photograph that quickly spread across the world — a lone religious sister kneeling before heavily armed men, protecting the innocent with nothing but courage and love.

Sister Ann later explained why she did it:

“There was no one else to protect the people.”

She worked at a Catholic clinic caring for the sick and displaced, but on that day she became something more:

A living witness to Christ-like courage.

In a world filled with fear, anger, and violence, one small nun reminded millions what real bravery looks like.

Not power.
Not weapons.
Not hatred.

Sacrificial love.

Sister Ann Rose Nu Tawng, may God protect you and all who work for peace in Myanmar.

A parishoner has reported having received an email that appeared to be from Father Alex - the email was asking for assistance, but requested response by email and not by phone. This email was not sent by Father Alex. He will never ask for money or gift cards in this manner. If you wonder if an email from Father is legitimate, verify it by calling the Parish Office or Father Alex himself to discuss it.

Bishop O'Donnell calls us to pray for peace.

Bishop O’Donnell Invites All to Join in Prayer for Peace, the Holy Father, and World Leaders

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

I am saddened by President Trump’s recent comments regarding Pope Leo XIV’s statements calling for peace and for an end to the war in Iran. It is troubling that the Pope’s call for peace was reduced to a political view. In faith, we know the Holy Father is the Vicar of Christ on earth, serving as supreme pastor of the Church. It is with pastoral charity that he calls for peace in our world, praying that nations would turn from war and violence, recognizing the God-given dignity of all people.

I ask that you join me in praying for peace, that the vision set before us by the Holy Father may be realized and that world leaders might seek and find nonviolent ways to resolve conflict.

Entrusting you to the maternal care of Mary, Queen of Peace,

Most Reverend Ralph B. O’Donnell
Bishop of Jefferson City
