This week’s DSF Newsletter is here!

We are delighted to celebrate DSF graduate Connie Savage on earning her M.Div. from Claremont School of Theology. Connie’s achievement marks a meaningful milestone in her journey of faith, leadership, and commitment to justice, healing, and inclusion.

You’ll also find reflections from across the DSF community, including highlights from the PSR Chapel Service, “Coloring the World with the Mind of a Disciple,” and student voices sharing experiences of worship, communion, and belonging.

Plus, Rev. Jill Delaney offers a moving reflection on DSF’s time at the Northern Lights Regional Assembly, an honest and heartfelt reminder of what it means to be supported, to reconnect, and to walk together in faith.

We’re also excited to announce that registration is now open for our June DSF Certificate Program course, God and the History of God’s People. This flexible online course invites participants to explore church history and discern how the Spirit is shaping the church today and tomorrow.

Where is everyone?

It’s a question many of us have asked in moments of exhaustion, especially when the energy fades and the crowd thins. This week’s DSF newsletter reflection from Rev. Brandon Johnson explores a deeper truth: momentum isn’t built in big, flashy moments—it’s sustained through relationships, persistence, and shared belonging.

From powerful reflections on community and justice to stories of connection at the CCNC-N Annual Gathering, this issue is a reminder that meaningful change happens in the “long middle”—in the quiet, faithful work of showing up, breaking bread, and building together.

✨ Plus:
• Inspiring opportunities like SENT Summer 2026
• A live Q&A with Disciples Church Extension Fund leadership
• Registration now open for DSF’s Certificate Program course: God and the History of God’s People

If you’ve been wondering where everyone is… maybe the answer is simpler than we think.

They’re here. At the table. In community. Still building.

This week’s DSF newsletter highlights a powerful witness unfolding right here in Southern California.

Amid sweeping immigration enforcement and ongoing ICE detentions, communities are coming together in prayer, protest, and solidarity. Each Tuesday, faith leaders and neighbors gather in downtown Los Angeles for “Godmothers of the Disappeared”, a vigil honoring those held in detention and reminding them they are not alone.

DSF staff and graduates joined this sacred space last week, offering prayers and testimony. As Rev. Dr. Louise Sloan Goben shared, “Our small prayer circle may feel small in the face of something so large — and I also know that prayer is a powerful witness.”

Rev. Siobhan Lopez reflected on the vigil as a place where “love and hope press through concrete,” reaching those inside and calling the outside world to attention.

Read their reflections, learn how to get involved, and hear stories from communities directly impacted.

Plus: Registration closes May 3 for our upcoming course, Biblically-Informed Pastoral Leadership: New Testament, part of the DSF Certificate Program designed for leaders navigating ministry in today’s complex world.

A Message from Week of Compassion Executive Director, Rev. Vy T. Nguyen

Dear Church,

Grace and peace to you in this season of uncertainty. In recent days, we have watched with deep concern as the conflict involving Iran has escalated. While headlines often focus on political and military developments, I write to you today from the perspective of Week of Compassion – and from the voices of our partners across the region – about what this means for the people we accompany.
