God’s Desire for a Kingdom of Priests Part 1:
“Exodus 19:4-6 You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”
Notice the Lord starts off reminding them what He did to bring them to Him. The Lord often will pull us from our Egypt to call us to places that bring Him pleasure. His desire was to see them walking in obedience and in covenant relationship. Israel would be a treasure if they obeyed Him. The Lord’s desire was that they would be a Kingdom of priests, a holy nation. God’s intent was that He would pour Himself out through Israel to bless all the nations.
Being delivered out of Egypt was only half the story. Sadly they never fulfilled the other side of His desire.
Yet, the Messiah was yet to show up. When He came He came with a message of the Gospel of the Kingdom. Check out the points below serving as examples.
• Mark 1:14–15 – Kingdom at hand
• Matthew 4:23; 9:35
• Luke 4:43 – primary mission
• Kingdom requires repentance and faith
• Kingdom is present yet future
Jesus established in Matthew 6:33 we were to seek first the Kingdom of God. Seeking first makes it the top priority. 1st Peter 2:9 “You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation…” We get the idea that what Israel did not bring to fruition the Father was going to do so through His Son.
In the book of Hebrews it is stated Jesus came after the order of Melchizedek. A lot of Christians are unaware or struggle to see its significance. Melchizedek is briefly mentioned in Genesis 14. He was a Royal High Priest.
Revelation 1:5-6 establishes that the blood of Christ washed away sin, however it also establishes His blood has made us Kings and Priests unto God. We are a part of a Royal Priesthood with Jesus as our High Priest, passed into Heaven. We are called to in obedience and to walk in covenant.
Comment below if this enhances how you see yourself in Christ.
