Thanksgiving Baskets – Sharing God's Love This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a season of gratitude, generosity, and sharing God's blessings with others. At Friendswood Methodist Church, our Thanksgiving Baskets Ministry is one way we put our faith into action by helping families in our community experience the joy of a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

Each year, through this ministry, we provide 30–40 Thanksgiving baskets filled with everything needed for a special holiday meal to families from Wedgewood Elementary, Westwood Elementary, and our Food Pantry.

This Sunday, October 25, our Ministry Moment will kick off our annual Thanksgiving Baskets Ministry! You'll hear more about the impact this ministry has on local families and how you can be part of sharing Christ's love this Thanksgiving.

We invite everyone to pick up a Blue Bag with an attached shopping list, fill it with the requested items, and return it to the church by Sunday, November 8.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference and remind families in our community that they are loved, valued, and not forgotten.

In a world filled with uncertainty, grief, and challenges, Jesus offers us a promise of hope that goes beyond this life. His words remind us that even in our darkest moments, we can find peace, strength, and new life through Him.

October Is Pastor Appreciation Month!

October is Pastor Appreciation Month, and we want to take a moment to recognize and celebrate our pastors, Rev. Jim Bass, Senior Pastor, and Rev. Sam McRae, Missions and Outreach Pastor!

This month, we pause to reflect on all they do for our church family and community. Each day, they faithfully dedicate their lives to serving God through their ministry, leadership, prayer, and care for others.

So much of what they do happens behind the scenes, but their commitment to sharing the love of Christ and leading others closer to Him makes a lasting difference.

We are truly blessed by their faithful hearts, servant leadership, and unwavering dedication to God's calling on their lives.

We thank God for both of them and the many ways they bless our church family!

When you see our pastors at church, feel free to take a moment to share a special thank you with them and let them know how much they are loved and appreciated!

We also encourage you to keep our pastors and their families in your daily prayers as they faithfully serve God and our church family.

A little behind the scenes from this week!

Rev. Jim Bass sat down to talk about something that matters a lot for the future of our church: the Wesley Endowment Fund.

Since 1980, this fund has given members a way to make lasting gifts that keep supporting our worship, discipleship, and outreach long after we're gone. This year alone, it gave over $12,000 to our Senior Adults Ministry, Food Pantry Ministry, and Student Ministry. An endowment is how the faith we've received gets planted in the people who come after us.

God never promises us an easy road. What He does promise is that He will guide us, and He goes with us every step.

That's the heart behind this week's message, "Jesus: The Good Shepherd," continuing our series, Jesus: The Name Above Every Name. Rev. Jim Bass walked through John 10, showing us a Shepherd who knows us by name, walks ahead of us through the valleys, protects us like an owner instead of a hired hand, and willingly lays down His life for us. If you've ever wondered whether God sees you in your struggles, your failures, and your fears, the answer is yes, and He loves you still.

"I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep." John 10:14-15 (NIV)

Hay bales are stacked, and the prep for Trunk or Treat is officially underway!

Some of our staff spent today hauling hay and getting things ready for Saturday, October 24, at 6 PM in the church parking lot. A night of decorated trunks, creative costumes, and fall fun for the whole family is coming together.

We still need your help with two things:

Candy! If you're able to donate, every bag helps fill the buckets of the kids who come through that night. Bring it by the church before Saturday.

Trunks! There's still room for more. Go all out with a theme, keep it simple and sweet, or team up with friends or family. Sign up by emailing Melanie at [email protected] or visiting the link below.
