Standing at our “sunrise” service in the rain, it was easier to imagine what it must have felt like to be Mary Magdalene walking toward the tomb, heavy with grief, unsure of what she would find, just wanting to be close to Jesus Christ one more time, not knowing that everything was about to change.
“Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.”
John 20:15-17 KJV
Jesus didn’t reveal Himself first to the perfect, He chose Mary Magdalene, a woman He had healed, a woman with a past, and when she was crying, He met her there; that’s Easter, He meets us in our sorrow and calls us into new life.
