Benedict Catholic Worker is part of the Catholic Worker Movement begun on May 1, 1933 by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin. We are a sister house of the Los Angeles Catholic Worker.

Meanwhile the Central California Food Bank is out of food. Last year the St. Benedict Catholic Worker purchased and distributed 60,000 pounds of food from the Food Bank. In 2026 the Food Bank cupboards are bare with little hope of food to fill their shelves.

We’re getting creative as to how to feed our folks.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker criticized the Donald Trump administration for what he called hypocrisy in federal spending, contrasting cuts to SNAP benefits with Pentagon expenditures. Pritzker cited reports that the Defense Department under Pete Hegseth spent about $6.9 million on lobster tail and $2 million on Alaskan king crab during a $93 billion September 2025 spending surge.
