Philippians 4:6 says this: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." I make a lot of requests to God: salvation of people I love, success in personal ventures, health issues, revival of faith and decency in our country and the world, special intercession for various people facing decisions or crises, etc. But the verse reminds me that, along with these requests, we should express gratitude to God --the source of all goodness and blessing.
For the past 5+ months I have been struggling with a painful knee and a resulting limp. After doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists and others were only partially successful in addressing the problem, I realized that the core issue was an out of place vertebrae in my lower back.
Yesterday, with the help of stretching exercises and some experimentation I was able to get that vertebrae back into position. The outcome: I could walk almost normally for the first time in months. This morning I got up and in the process of moving around, I realized that my walk was much better. So thanksgiving was on my mind as I approached the Lord. Requests are perfectly fine. God wants us to ask, but he delights in our gratitude. I need to remember to thank him more. How about you?
