Tri-City Young Life

Tri-City Young Life Hello and welcome to the Tri-City Area Young Life site! Young Life doesn't start with a program. Loving kids
regardless of their
responses.

It starts with adults who are concerned enough about kids to go to them, on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship. These relationships don't happen overnight — they take time, patience, trust and consistency. So Young Life leaders log many hours with kids — where they are, as they are. We listen to their stories and learn what's important to them because we genu

inely care about their joys, triumphs, heartaches and setbacks. We believe in the power of presence. Kids' lives are dramatically influenced when caring adults come alongside them, sharing God's love with them. Because their Young Life leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose. This is the first step of a lifelong journey; the choices they make today, based upon God's love for them, will have an impact on future decisions — careers chosen, marriages formed and families raised — all ripples from the time when a Young Life leader took time to reach out and enter their world. Young Life’s Statement of Faith

Preamble

We the members of the Young Life mission – trustees, staff, instructors at Young Life schools and volunteers – join together in our affirmation of the following articles and our central purpose of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ and introducing adolescents everywhere to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith. Article I

The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, being given by divine inspiration, are the Word of God, the final and supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. Article II

In the Scriptures, God reveals Himself as the living and true God, Creator of all things. Perfect in love and righteous in all His ways, this one God exists eternally as a Trinity of persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Article III

God made man and woman in His image that He might have fellowship with us. Being estranged from God by our disobedience, we are, as sinful people, incapable of a right relationship to God apart from divine grace. Article IV

The only Mediator between God and all human beings is Jesus Christ our Lord, God’s eternal Son, who as man fully shared and fulfilled our humanity in a life of perfect obedience. Article V

By His death in our place, Jesus revealed the divine love and upheld divine justice, removing our guilt and reconciling us to God. Having risen bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven, He rules as Lord over all and intercedes for us as our Great High Priest. Article VI

The Holy Spirit, through the proclamation of the Gospel, renews our hearts, persuading us to repent of our sins and confess Jesus as Lord. By the same Spirit we are led to trust in divine mercy, whereby we are forgiven all our sins, justified by faith through the merit of Christ our Savior, adopted into God’s family as His children and enabled so to live in the world that all people may see our good works and the Gospel of grace at work in our lives and glorify our Father who is in heaven. Article VII

God, by His Word and Spirit, calls us as sinful people into the fellowship of Christ’s body. Thus He creates the one holy, catholic and apostolic church, united in the bonds of love, endowed with the gifts of the Spirit and summoned by Christ to preach the Gospel and to administer the sacraments, to carry on the ministry of reconciliation, to relieve human need and to strive for social justice. Article VIII

God’s redemptive purpose will be consummated by the return of Christ to raise the dead, judge all people and establish His glorious kingdom. Those who are apart from Christ shall be eternally separated from God’s presence, but the redeemed shall live and reign with Him forever.

We got back from Woodleaf Summer Camp tired from the drive, exhausted, our voices were gone from singing our favorite songs all week, and full of stories tell. Why?! Because YOU made it possible. Kids met Jesus this summer, many for the very first time! It's why we do this. And we want you to see what your praying and giving accomplished this summer. Here are stories we want to share with you.

Carlos, a camper ~ "The questions from the speaker made us go deep and not just like "oh yeah I see that'' or "ok I know how you feel", it got deep. Tears were shed and everything. I'm not a good storyteller but that summed it up. It was my 4th camp and nothing hit more home than this one. People tend to say "oh I'm never forgetting camp" but sincerely I will never forget this camp.

Sophia, a camper ~ "When I think back to all of the conversations I had, I am able to really have gratitude towards God‘s love for me. It was definitely an emotional experience but I was able to feel his love and presence throughout the week. I know it was a sign from God that I was put there for a reason at that exact time. There’s no amount of words that I could say to thank all the people that helped send me there; the people from other areas who helped me in finding who I am; the guest speaker Daniel who took time out of his day to really get to know me and help me understand my faith; and most importantly my Tri-City family.

Scott, an interpreter and camp leader ~ "I have a unique experience of watching God bring deaf kids and hearing kids together, watching them accept each other and overcome their language barriers. Camp is a place to be real with teens about living life with Jesus. All the games and activities are geared towards lifting kids up to be the center of attention so they can tangibly feel the love of Christ as their leaders and peers cheer them on. I saw God’s love in the dining hall among the high school servers who kept serving with a huge smile on their face, even though they were 20 members short. In the chance encounter with another leader in the game room wanting to meet our deaf campers. In the campers teaching this aging leader how to jump into a structure that looks like a pig pen to play Gaga Ball. In meeting diverse groups of people in the pool while playing basketball. In watching a high school girl choose to interact and hang out with our campers with special needs (Fun Life/Capernaum). The most precious experience for me were the last 2 days of camp watching the kids in our cabin process their life with Jesus. Woodleaf was an opportunity to forget the strife and political division of the world and for a brief moment experience a little bit of heaven. I can’t thank those who support Young Life enough for their part in changing lives. As the camp speaker said, healing the world one kid at a time, one club at a time, one school, one city and one nation at a time.
