FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 24, 2019
ST. MARK’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH AND VERA’S HOUSE
ANNOUNCE THE OPENING OF THE
JUSTICE STREET PANTRY
In Matthew 25, Jesus says, “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink.” With this text in mind, we are pleased to announce the opening of the Justice Street Pantry.
Our mission is to help feed the hungry and those in need by making easily available a carton of frozen soup and a loaf of bread. The soup and bread are lovingly made in the home kitchens of members and friends of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Newaygo and Vera’s House, our community health and wellness center.
You will find the Justice Street Pantry behind a red door on the north side of Vera’s House, just off the Justice St. driveway between our two buildings (see image below).
This door is open to our brothers and sisters in the community in need of a nutritious meal. Behind the red door is a tall upright freezer that holds containers of soup and bread available and free to anyone.
The Rev. BJ Heyboer, priest at St. Mark’s and director of Vera’s House, says, “There is a lively spirit geared at healing and wholeness in our neighborhood in Newaygo. We are thankful for this opportunity to offer delicious food to enhance the well-being of fellow community members.” Pam Redinger, senior warden of St. Mark’s, added, “Feeding people has always been important to me and to our community of faith. The Justice Street Pantry is one of our dreams come true.”
