SERMON: Answer the Question Matthew 16:13-20

In our Gospel lesson for today Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do the crowds say I am?” Having received an answer Jesus then asked, “But what about you? Who do you say I am?”

Peter responded with the correct confession. We, too, make this same confession. We confess that Jesus is the Christ. He is our Savior. He is the One through whom we receive the gift of eternal life. He is the One who has paid in full the price of our sins. He is our Redeemer.

One day you will be called upon to answer the question, “But what about you? Who do you say I am?” There is but one answer to that question. The answer is a confession, a confession of faith, a confession of faith given by God as a gift, a gift that gives life eternal.

SERMON: Proclaiming Jesus, the Living Water
John 14:7-14

This Sunday we celebrate Lake George Lutheran Chapel’s 60th Anniversary. When Jesus was talking with the woman at the well He said, “The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” That is the promise of Christ that is proclaimed and taught at LGLC. The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. That is what makes what happens here so special. Here, at LGLC, we proclaim Christ, the Living Water. We know and believe that Jesus is the way and the truth and the life.

For 60 years that message of salvation has been proclaimed in this place. By God’s grace, and under His care and direction, we shall continue to be a people who are “Proclaiming Christ, the Living Water.”

Sermon: Keep Your Eye on the Ball Matt 14:22-33

In faith Peter stepped out of a boat into the raging waters of the sea. He was fine until fear overtook him. Jesus saved him. When Jesus and Peter “got into the boat, the wind ceased.”

What was the response of the disciples to this great event? Our text says they “worshipped Him saying, ‘Truly You are the Son of God’”. Is this not our response? Is that not why we are here this day?

We are here not only to receive from Jesus the wonderful gifts he has come to bring, but we are also here to offer Him our worship and praise. We are here to confess our faith in Christ, as did the disciples. We are here to proclaim, “Truly You are the Son of God.” We learned from scripture and Luther’s Small Catechism, “I believe in Jesus Christ, true God…and also true man…is my Lord.”

We are here to proclaim the gift we have received, the gift of faith in the only true God. We are here to, as we say in our church logo, “Proclaim Jesus, the Living Water.”
