Winter Storm Fern Impacting Brunswick County; Residents Urged to Stay Home
Brunswick County is under a Winter Storm Warning as hazardous weather conditions begin to impact the area. Forecasts indicate significant snow and ice accumulation, creating extremely dangerous travel conditions and the potential for impassable roadways across the county.
County officials urge residents to stay home and off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary. Even well-treated roads may quickly become unsafe as snow, sleet, and freezing rain accumulate. Reduced visibility, freezing temperatures, and rapidly changing conditions will make travel especially dangerous.
Brunswick County has pre-staged resources at strategic locations throughout the county in advance of the storm. Once community needs are identified and the effects of the storm are clearer, the Brunswick County Conference Center, 100 Athletic Field Drive, Lawrenceville, VA and The Old Fire House, 136 West First Avenue, Alberta, VA will be available to citizens as warming and charging stations if needed. Additional locations will be announced as needs arise.
Public safety personnel—including law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, and public works—are positioned and ready to provide support. However, residents should be aware that response times may be delayed, and in some cases access may be impossible due to downed trees, power lines, icy road conditions, and other storm-related hazards. The safety of both residents and responders remains a top priority throughout this event.
For the most current and reliable information, citizens should:
• Monitor Brunswick Alert for official emergency notifications
• Follow trusted local media outlets and Brunswick County Government communication channels
Brunswick County officials appreciate the cooperation of residents as the community works together to remain safe during this winter weather event.
Additional updates will be provided as conditions change.
