Today we celebrated the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. Read Father Mike's weekly message below.

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Trinity. The theologian who most clearly explained God as Trinity was St. Augustine. He put it this way: the Father is the One who loves. The Son is the One who is loved. The Spirit is the very act of loving.

When we look at the Trinity through the eyes of love, it becomes easier to understand. Rather than trying to "figure out" how the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit can be one God, we can recognize that God reveals himself as a communion of love -- and love is the gift God gives us. He has chosen three different ways to portray that one, overflowing love.

So this week, let me ask you: How do you love? Who are the people you love? Who loves you? And then -- most importantly -- how do you love others?

Take some time this week to reflect on that word: LOVE.

They were in the Upper Room – a safe place for them. But even there, they were frightened. They feared that what happened to Jesus would happen to them. He was crucified and died. All they had hoped for seemed to be gone, and their lives felt in jeopardy.

Then he stood before them – alive. Imagine what was going through their minds: He was dead, and not He was alive. Pure joy.

But then the shock turned into something else: they realized what they had done. They ran away. They denied Him. They betrayed Him. Their fear returned – deep and overwhelming. Jesus calmed their fears with one word: Peace.

And then, in John's Gospel, He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” Everything changed. They went from frightened men huddled in a room to evangelists spreading the Word of God.

Over the next few weeks, there will be changes in our own community. The Church of St. Patrick will merge with Immaculate Conception. The linked parishes of Good Shepherd and Immaculate Conception will have an additional worship site. All of this can be frightening and uncertain.

But we are not without what the apostles had. Trust in Jesus – and trust in the Holy Spirit. It worked for the eleven in the Upper Room, and the Church has survived for more then 2,000 years.

Happy Pentecost to all!

Pentecost Sunday is May 24th. Pentecost takes place on the 49th day after Easter.

It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles of Jesus, Mary, and other followers of Christ, while they were in Jerusalem celebrating the Feast of Weeks, as described in the Acts of the Apostles. Pentecost marks the Birthday of the Church.

Today we celebrated the Seventh Sunday of Easter. Read Father Mike's weekly message below.

Many of us remember Nancy Reagan and her remark about the cognitive decline of her husband Ronald after he left the office of President of the United States. She called it the “Long Goodbye.” It was something she watched unfold over many years—slowly, painfully, and with growing worry.

This weekend’s Gospel gives us a very different kind of goodbye. Jesus begins His own farewell to His disciples. He has spent three years with them. Now He is ready to return to the Father. This departure is not a loss to be endured; it is a transition to be trusted. Jesus leaves them with a promise: He will go, and He will send the Holy Spirit.

In a sense, Jesus is depending on them. He is entrusting to them the mission He began—so that the work continues even after He is no longer physically present. Imagine their sorrow: He is leaving. Imagine their fear: how can they possibly carry this on? Jesus seems confident they can. They are not so sure.

And yet, this same directive is given to you personally—the one reading these words. Jesus is still calling you to continue the work He began. He is not asking you to do it alone. He sends the Spirit to sustain, guide, and strengthen you.

You can do it.
