The Traveling Chalice will move to a new family this Thursday for the month of September. The chalice will be passed on during the Thursday, 8:15am Mass on September 3rd. Please offer up your communion and continue to pray for vocations in our church!

Discipleship Small Groups are starting up again in September! Join us for a video and discussion series. This captivating video series draws on the ancient Celtic name forthe Holy Spirit, "the Wild Goose." Led by Fr. Dave Pivonka, TOR, it explores how the Spirit transforms lives, reveals God's love, and empowers Christians to live their faith more fully. This study covers 8 of the 14 episodes. Today is National Dog Day! Believe it or not, we have a saint for that! St. Roch is the patron saint of dogs and dog lovers. According to a The Catholic Company blog, the saint ministered to many curing the plague by administering the sign of the cross over them. "When his travels brought him to the town of Piacenza, he discovered that he was no longer spared from the deadly disease, having finally contracted it in the leg. Instead of burdening anyone with his sickness, he commended himself to God and awaited his death in a remote and abandoned forest hut. Providentially, a local nobleman's hunting dog found and befriended him, bringing him food daily and licking his wounds. A spring arose nearby to provide St. Roch with fresh water."

Have you seen the chimney swifts in our chimney at night?

Every dusk in August.
Chimney swifts are staging for migration — one of the most spectacular wildlife events you've never heard of.
THE SPECTACLE:
→ Late July–September: swifts gather in massive communal roosts
→ Hundreds to THOUSANDS funnel into a single large chimney at dusk
→ They swirl above in a tightening vortex, then pour in
→ Inside, they cling to the walls with tiny hook-like claws
→ Morning: they burst out at dawn
THE BIRD:
→ Spends virtually its entire life in flight
→ Cannot perch on branches (feet are too small)
→ Cannot take off from flat ground
→ Eats, drinks, sleeps, and mates in the air
→ Only lands to roost and nest
→ Federally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act
THE PROBLEM:
→ Originally roosted in hollow trees (old-growth forests)
→ Adapted to chimneys when forests were cut
→ Now chimneys are being capped, lined, and demolished
→ Modern metal chimneys are too smooth to cling to
→ Population declined 70%+ since 1966
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
→ If you have an old masonry chimney: DON'T cap it during swift season (May–October)
→ Keep the damper closed (they don't enter the house)
→ Swift tower installations are growing nationwide
→ Report large roost sites to your local Audubon chapter
→ Go watch — many cities have designated viewing events
Watch generally 30 minutes before sunset.
