This fabulous team is busy planning and looking forward to welcoming children from Freedom and surrounding communities to its upcoming VBS program, Very Blessed to Serve (VBS), taking place July 13–17.
While VBS is commonly known as Vacation Bible School, First Christian Church of Freedom is embracing the familiar acronym while creating a unique experience focused on community, learning, service, and fun. Children ages 5–12 will enjoy a safe, engaging environment filled with friendship, games, music, hands-on activities, reading, experiments, relaxation, and delicious snacks and treats. Lunch will also be provided for children participating in the extended day option.
The church extends an open invitation to all families, emphasizing its commitment to inclusivity and community.
“Our sign out front says, ‘Come as you are,’ and we mean it,” Pastor, Knute Ogren, shared. “At First Christian Church of Freedom, we gather all the saints of God who feel called to be part of community. Our mission is simple: Love God, Love Neighbor, Serve Those in Need. We want people of all ages, perspectives, and abilities to experience God’s boundless love together.”
Organizers encourage families to consider the children and youth in their lives who may benefit from the program—a 5-year-old eager to explore, an 8-year-old looking for summer activities, an 11-year-old hoping to make new friends, or a 13-year-old interested in serving as a helper. The church hopes to connect with children throughout Freedom and neighboring communities.
To ensure accessibility for all families, the program will operate on a sliding-scale fee structure. Families may contribute at a level that works for their circumstances, and no child will be turned away due to financial concerns.
