Life can bring moments of grief, uncertainty, transition, and challenges that can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to face them by yourself.

Our Stephen Ministers are committed to walking alongside those who are hurting, offering compassionate emotional and spiritual care for as long as needed. Their heart is simple: to listen, to care, to pray, and to walk with you through whatever season of life you may be facing.

A few weeks ago, our Mount Hope Stephen Ministers traveled to Gaithersburg, Maryland to join more than 600 Stephen Ministers from across the country in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Stephen Ministry. They gathered to celebrate this incredible ministry, grow together, learn from one another, and return home better equipped and ready to serve Mount Hope and our community.

We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to being a source of hope, encouragement, and care when it matters most.

Every year, Mount Hope Baptist Church has the privilege of investing in the academic dreams of our young people. This year, we are proud to celebrate four scholarship recipients as they continue their educational journeys:

📚Tuskegee University
📚 University of Virginia
📚 Virginia State University — 2 recipients

Since the launch of the “Linda A. Bowden Scholarship” in 1998, nearly 200 students have received scholarships totaling over $210,000.

Established by the family of Linda Cartwright Bowden, the scholarship fund was created to support students pursuing their next chapter through community college, technical training, colleges, and universities.

The family believed deeply that education is a gateway to opportunity, opening doors to meaningful careers, financial success, and economic stability. By establishing this scholarship, they chose to honor Linda’s life and legacy by helping others build brighter futures.

Linda was the beloved wife of Trustee Emeritus Bowden for 12 years before her passing in 1998 from ovarian cancer. What began with the family’s initial contribution has grown into a lasting legacy, sustained year after year through the generosity of Mount Hope disciples and friends.

To every Mount Hope disciple and friend who has donated to the scholarship fund “Thank You!” Your generosity is helping make educational dreams possible and ensuring that Linda’s legacy continues to make a difference in the lives of generations to come. 🙏🏾

We are only 31 days away from Pastor Bell's 40th Pastoral Anniversary. And what better way to celebrate this milestone than with someone who has been part of the journey for more than 40 years?

We’re honored to welcome Dr. Theron D. Williams as our guest preacher. Dr. Williams is a seasoned pastor, scholar, and thought leader whose life’s work bridges faith, education, and cultural insight.

For more than 35 years, he has faithfully served as Pastor of Mt. Carmel Church, where his leadership has shaped generations through preaching, teaching, and community engagement. His pastoral ministry is marked by a deep commitment to biblical scholarship, social justice, and the spiritual formation of believers. 🙌🏾

But this is more than a guest preacher, it’s a classmate and longtime friend. Pastor Bell and Dr. Williams met as students at Virginia Union University, building a friendship that has lasted more than four decades.

From classmates to pastors, from VUU to ministry, 40+ years later, they’re coming together to celebrate 40 years of pastoral leadership!
