Day 2 of Holy Week
”And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples, Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified. Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, and consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him. But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.“
Matthew 26:1-5 KJV
AND
”And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves; and would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple. And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves. And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine. And when even was come, he went out of the city.“
Mark 11:15-19 KJV
Significance: This day marked the beginning of the final block of teaching that Jesus would offer his disciples prior to his betrayal by Judas Iscariot. Additionally it included the cleansing of the temple AND the formation of the conspiracy to crucify Jesus. The Messiah taught and cleansed in FULL knowledge of the conspiracy being developed against Him. As we ponder his final week before crucifixion, may we be inspired to do the same. Serve….even in hostile territory! For God’s glory and for God’s story!
