Today's reading;
Luke 5:8
When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!”

The closer we get to Jesus, the more of Him we experience, the more sinful we notice ourselves being. Peter was just starting to experience who Jesus is, and this was his reaction. If only we would have the same?? We should bow before Him, admitting who He is, confessing our sins, and crying out for His forgiveness. This, my friends is true repentance. Let that marinate for a while.

Jesus, thank You for accepting me, in spite of all my sinful ways. It is only You that washes me clean. Apart from You, I am cursed to spend eternity seperated from God. But through Your mercy and grace, You have made a way for me to be forever in God's presence. Use me to point others unto Yourself.

Today's reading;
Matthew 5:16
But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Why would Jesus tell us to forgive others? Because it clears our heart for a relationship with Him. Unforgiveness hardens our heart. It puts up walls that we think protect us, but they keep even God out of those parts.

So forgive, forgive him that r***d you when you were 12, forgive the husband that can't keep his hands to himself, forgive that wife that can't stay out of other men's beds, forgive the parent that dished out the abuse I grew up in. Forgiveness does not say what you did was OK, it says my God is more important than you. Let that marinate for a while.

Thank You Jesus for speaking this word to me. Help me with my Unforgiveness. Through Your Holy Spirit, guide me to forgive as You forgave me. I want a soft heart that is palpable for You. You know that I struggle in this, and need Your help to forgive.

Today's reading;
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

While you are running, He is working on a hope and a future for you. While you persecute yourself for the shame, for the mis-steps, for the times you turned away from Him, He is working on a hope and a future for you. Step out of that shame, and step into His thoughts about you. Let that marinate for a while.

Father, thank You for restoring my vision. Thank You for Your thoughts about me. I yield and surrender to Your plans, design, and future. I surrender my thoughts, my shame, my self persecution, and take up Your will and purpose through me. May Your will be done.

Today's reading;
Matthew 26:55
In that hour Jesus said to the multitudes, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me? I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and you did not seize Me.

Jesus asked why they came to capture Him as if He was a criminal, when He sat teaching in front of them every day? Truth is, they did not know Him. How often are we the same? We depend on our grandma's faith to identify Jesus, just like the guards depended on judas' kiss? We can't depend on others' relationship with Jesus. You will never know Him that way. And in judgement He will say, depart from me, I never knew you. Let that marinate for a while.

Jesus, I put forth the effort to know You for myself. I don't want a second-hand watered down version of You. That means nothing. I want the true, unobstructed, unfiltered, unadulterated You. I want no obstruction between myself and You. Reveal all of You to me.

Today's reading;
Revelation 1:3
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.

This should be enough incentive to spend time in God's word, but sadly it's not. Just reading alone does not cut it though, you must take it to heart. That requires an action. You must read, understand, and belive the word. For this, you will be blessed. It does not specify what the blessing is, but if you carefully read it, the blessing is Christ revealed. Jesus revealed is the ultimate blessing you can have, but you have to spend time in His word to find Him. Let that marinate for a while.

Father, thank You for Your word. Show me the insights into Your scriptures that reveal Yourself. You are the only blessing that I need. You are far beyond enough. As this world waxes worse, and Your word rings true, I find comfort in You and Your word.

Today's reading;
Matthew 4:4
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

This verse shows that the word of God is so important that, that is all Jesus used to combat Satan. The problem with western American Christianity is there is too many sermons, not enough literacy. We love sermons, but don't read. We only know what someone standing on a stage says, but not what God said. Too many pastors tell you what you want to hear because they are trying to fill seats, and don't tell the truth about what God really said. What if their words don't line up with God's word? To know God for real, WE MUST READ HIS WORD! Let that marinate for a while.

Father thank You for Your word. I want to know more of You through it. Reveal Yourself to me through it. I pray that Your people will put down their devices, stop believing what others say, and will find You in the scriptures. I pray for a revival in the land that starts with Your word. I search for the truth of who You are, and what You expect of me. I pray psalm 119:11 "Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You."

Today's reading;
Mark 1:15
and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

The only two things the gospel asks of us is, repent and believe. That's it. No more, no less. As westerners, we tend to over complicate this. The truth is, we try to add to it. Jesus only said to repent from our sin, our previous way of thinking, and believe in the gospel, believe in Him. Any time we add to, or take away from this, we are contaminating Jesus' words and deceiving ourselves. Let that marinate for a while.

Jesus, let me take Your word at Your word. No more, no less. Search me for all unrepentant sin. Show where and what it is that I may turn away from it, and turn to You. I believe Your gospel. I belive in You, and You alone. Salvation comes from no other.

Today's reading;
Matthew 27:29
When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

Have you ever wondered why this took place? In such an event with prophecy being fulfilled, why a crown of thorns? Is it just a thing that had no deeper meaning? What if? What if we go back and read Genesis 3:17-18? Jesus took the curse of the land upon Him, as well as our sin. Let that marinate for a while.

Father, thank You for Your word. I'm more amazed at Your word every day. I find You in it because You are the word. Every verse, every word, is linked together precisely as You intended. Let me discover and see You in all the black and red letters.

Today's reading;
I kings 17:4
And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”

Elijah stood before king Ahab, and said there shall not be dew nor rain except at my word. This was very dangerous as Ahab was the most evil king of Isreal. But God provided for Elijah. Ravens were unclean scavengers, yet at God's command they provided meat and bread twice a day for him. In a land that was dry, and people starving, God provided. What an awesome God He is.

On a personal note, my wife Amy was not feeling good yesterday. She was lightheaded and nauseous, so she called in to work. They told her she needed a doctor's excuse. The only way to see a doctor on short notice was to go to the emergency room. AFTER she drove herself there, she apparently had a stroke. They gave her the shot for stroke symptoms, and transferred her to San Antonio. God worked and provided every aspect and detail of this ordeal. She has full mobility and no cognitive damage. Those that know anything about her family know how scary this was. Let that marinate for a while.

Father, thank You for being the ultimate provider. Thank You for loving us the way You do. Only You can arrange the details that You do. Thank You for saving Amy, again. I place her in Your hands, for Your purpose, Your glory. You know how much she means to me, and I can't thank You enough.

Today's reading;
Mark 1:15
and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

The gospel only requires these two things of us, repent and believe. We only have to repent of our sin, and believe Jesus is the Son of God for salvation. That's it. No fancy words, no punishment, no getting yourself together, no anything else. This is it for Jesus to accept our presence with Him in heaven. However, the fruit of the Holy Spirit within us makes it impossible to stay where we are and not change our life. Let that marinate for a while.

Jesus, thank You for doing all of the work for me. Thank You for making it so simple that I can't mess it up. It is You that have done all of the work, that I cannot boast. Thank You for saving me. Thank You for not leaving me there though. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit within me, making the changes within me. May others see You in and through me. You get all of the glory of every change made in me and my life. Use me to call others unto Yourself.

Today's reading;
Matthew 18:8-9
8 If your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. 9 And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.

These verses are talking about unrepentant sin. Sin we willfully commit. Jesus was warning us to seperate ourselves from it. Too often were not chained to sin, but holding onto a leash to it. We treat sin like a pet. Jesus is warning us to stop willfully sinning. It's the sin that I make a rational decision to do. Let that marinate for a while.

Father, I repent of my sin. You know my heart and mind. With Your Holy Spirit within me, the power to stop the willful offense of these sins is in me. I yield to You. I surrender for Your use and not an instrument of destruction by the enemy. Reveal all of the areas where I fall short, and help me to address them.
