Brief History (Development) of GBCA
In and around the year 2000, many people from Burma (one of the South East Asian countries) left Burma for various reasons and found a new hometown in Frederick, Maryland, USA. Some of the people, mostly from Chin ethnic background began worshipping the Lord in the form of a fellowship gathering led by Rev. Moses Thawng Cung, assisted by Rev. Peter Van Hnu
ai Sum and also occasionally by Rev. Dr. Myint Than, which took some four to five years, under the name of Gospel Baptist Church of Frederick. In 2005, the deacons who were selected by Rev. Moses Thawng Cung came up together with an agreement to stand as an indipendent local Church, which came into reality in December of that year. Beginning from May of 2006, Rev. Peter Van Hnuai Sum became the full-fledged pastor to lead and guide the newly established local Church. Since then, the Church's motto had always been "God our Savior who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" quoted from 1Tim 2:4. The name of the Church was changed into the Gospel Baptist Church of America (GBCA) in 2006, with the agreement of the pastor and the deacons, confirmed by the congregation. Eventually the constitution and by-laws of the Church were established by referendum in September 2008. The place of worship had been held very Sunday in the afternoon at Harvest Christian Fellowship Church, 8707 Indian Spring Rd, Frederick so far.
