On Maundy Thursday, we remember the night Jesus knelt to serve and gave us His Supper.

Bread and wine—His body and blood—given for the forgiveness of sins.

A night of humility, love, and a gift that still remains for us today.

Yesterday afternoon in Faith Explorers, we spent time learning about The Passover - how God protected and provided for His people.

The kids even got to taste unleavened bread and painted their partner’s hands, remembering the blood over the doorposts, bringing the story to life in a hands-on way!

And since it was Howard’s birthday yesterday, we celebrated with cake 🎂 - because every good afternoon needs a little joy!

***Don’t miss our next Faith Explorers at Immanuel Frederic on April 25th!***

Today we remember Holy Innocents, Martyrs Day

Today we remember Holy Innocents, Martyrs Day

December 28 is The Holy Innocents, Martyrs Day. On this day, the Church remembers the children two years and younger who were murdered by King Herod following the birth of Jesus. Fearing the one born “King of the Jews,” for whom the Wise Men had searched, Herod determined to kill all male children in and around Bethlehem who were two years old and younger. This terrible act reminds us of the sinful brokenness of this world and the people in it, but also marks the beginning of the persecution Jesus faced for us. Though spared at this time, the most innocent child of all, our Lord Jesus Christ, would grow to manhood and die an innocent death upon the cross at the hands of another calculating ruler, Pontius Pilate. That death He died for all – for the Holy Innocents, and for us.

Let us pray: “Almighty God, the martyred innocents of Bethlehem showed forth Your praise not by speaking but by dying. Put to death in us all that is in conflict with Your will that our lives may bear witness to the faith we profess with our lips; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.” Amen.

The description was adapted, and the prayer was quoted from “Treasury of Daily Prayer” page 1065.

Painting William Holman Hunt, The Triumph of the Holy Innocents, shows Jesus and family returning from Egypt, the Holy Innocents haloed and following behind. The Christ child seems to reach for them. The Church has traditionally tied the death of the Holy Innocents to the death of Christ, and most paintings depict their massacre. Holman takes his cue of hope from Jeremiah 31:16-17. +SERVICE OF THE WORD+
The Nativity of Our Lord
Dec. 25, 2025

OLD TESTAMENT
Isaiah 52:7–10

How beautiful upon the mountains
are the feet of him who brings good news,
who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness,
who publishes salvation,
who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
The voice of your watchmen—they lift up their voice;
together they sing for joy;
for eye to eye they see
the return of the Lord to Zion.
Break forth together into singing,
you waste places of Jerusalem,
for the Lord has comforted his people;
he has redeemed Jerusalem.
The Lord has bared his holy arm
before the eyes of all the nations,
and all the ends of the earth shall see
the salvation of our God.

EPISTLE
Hebrews 1:1–12

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

For to which of the angels did God ever say,

“You are my Son,
today I have begotten you”?

Or again,

“I will be to him a father,
and he shall be to me a son”?

And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says,

“Let all God’s angels worship him.”

Of the angels he says,

“He makes his angels winds,
and his ministers a flame of fire.”

But of the Son he says,

“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has anointed you
with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.”

And,

“You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning,
and the heavens are the work of your hands;
they will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment,
like a robe you will roll them up,
like a garment they will be changed.
But you are the same,
and your years will have no end.”

GOSPEL
John 1:1–18

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.

The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.

Each month at Faith Explorers, we spend time digging into a Bible story together. Last month, we learned about Jacob and Esau—a story about choices, blessings, and what truly matters. We talked about how Esau traded away something priceless for something quick and temporary, and how we can sometimes give up important things without even noticing.

To bring the story to life, the kids played a card-trading game where they collected items like “birthright,” “food,” or “favorite toy,” and quickly discovered how easy it is to make a trade we might regret.

Then everyone helped cook a pot of lentil soup, just like the stew in the story. The kids measured, stirred, seasoned, and worked together to make it delicious!

We’re grateful for these moments where God’s Word comes alive and for the joy the kids bring each month.

Saturday we celebrated Scott, our DCE and the many ways he has blessed our church over the past several years. He has supported our congregation with so much heart—teaching, guiding, encouraging, and quietly serving behind the scenes in ways most people never even see.

While we won’t get to see him as regularly anymore, we’re grateful that he’s not going far. We know he’ll continue partnering with us in our joint youth group ministry, Faith Explorers.

Scott, thank you for your dedication, your kindness, and all the time you’ve poured into our church family. We are incredibly grateful for you and pray God’s blessings on this next season.

You will be deeply missed, but always part of our family. 🙏
