FATHER, I know that I walk in a path right now in which it is impossible for me to comprehend what You are teaching me in this moment. I MUST TRUST. “Now we see through a glass darkly…”. There is no point at which we see fully on this side. My how we dangerously fool ourselves into thinking we do see it (You) clearly! We don’t! We can’t! But we can, by Your unspeakable and immeasurable kindness and grace, see JUST ENOUGH—enough to remind us that TRUST must be the order of this moment—the kind of “verb-ed” TRUST which has no physical/emotional visage. There are these portals—moments that are like the anticipated view on an ocean drive. For now we strain, trying to catch glimpses between the trees, houses, and obstacles which keep us from being fully one with the unfathomable natural wonder, which is, the ocean. So is the soul on this path which longs and strains to be unfettered and unleashed to That One with Whom the soul was created to exist eternally in ONENESS. Until then, this path must be walked teased and taunted by just enough of a glimpse to tarry another step.

FATHER, yes, YOU ARE KIND to me. You always have been. You always will be. I watch as this journey unfolds and moves into new seasons and phases. Again, I embrace the truth of what You instructed Joshua and the people, “…for you have not gone this way before…”, yes, it is all new to me. On both the desired side and undesired side of the path, these are steps I have not walked before. And it all comes with the potential of experiencing You greater.

The majority of us are unable to fix our thoughts in prayer. We lie all abroad before God and do not rouse ourselves up to lay hold of Him, consequently we have wandering thoughts continually. God will not bring every though and imagination into captivity; we have to do it, and that is the test of spiritual concentration.

Taking thoughts into captivity, which are the “wandering” thoughts that leads to the degradation of our soul, is only one part. Should we not learn to take into captivity those thoughts that are from Him, of Him, and in Him, and move upon them intentionally? “He must increase, but I must decrease” (Jn. 3:30). A person may be disciplined in their thought life and strong in their resolve to stay away from things that would destroy them. But what about those proactive and life-giving thoughts which set before me the table of joy and productivity of the soul? Where am I “taking captive” what we would call the positive, God-thoughts? Once again, I’m reminded here, it’s not one or the other, but both/and.

“IN HIM WAS LIFE, AND THAT LIFE WAS THE LIGHT OF ALL MANKIND”…are the words that come to my soul this morning as I watch the developing and dramatic sunrise this morning. My Lord and my God, Who is like You? No one! YOU ARE the God Who comes to me. And oh my, the work that You do in merely showing up and knocking on the door of my space! Here we are…You and I. There are times when words are not needed. Your Presence is real. Your Presence rights my wrong. Your Presence brings You—Peace—peace to my turmoil and hurriedness. Your Presence draws me in and up. Your Presence offers me the deepest and highest love. Your Presence alone gives me strength. Your Presence is the preparatory work and context for all that has been, is, and will be favored by You. Your Presence is Life. Your Presence is Light. Without Your Presence in and about my life, I am surely, a dead man walking.

Who are you looking for? Seek, ask, follow...and if it's the right One, you won't be disappointed.

This is the energy and joy of the new life, a life which grows, even in the midst of adversity. The revelations of God through Christ and the Holy Spirit in our lives, are not one-time, one-way, dead-end destinations. His life in me stirs and is reproductive toward new life. Kingdom movements of TRUST, which take me higher become preferred to only settling for momentary assurances, which typically keep “the wheels” spinning in one place.

YOUR WORDS ARE TRUE…Yes, I am definitely walking a way I have not walked before. The markers, sites, experiences, challenges, difficulties, and joys are all different than I’ve experienced before. Holy Spirit, I thank You for Your teaching that tells me, “GOD IS ONE.” For in this, I realize that all of life is not compartmentalized and in separate segments, but all things are to be seen and treated as ONE. If it weren’t for this profound recalibration of my understanding and world, I would be “of all men most miserable.” In Your ONENESS, there is perfect shalom—shalom-shalom. In Your ONENESS, there is rest. In Your ONENESS, any thought of previous boundaries and limits are obliterated. In Your ONENESS, inwardly my soul smiles and is strengthened, “though on the outside [I] am wasting away.” It is The Way of the walk that matters. Holy Spirit, do help me in this.
