The followers of Christ are people drawn deeper each day into the Words of the Father, Son, and Spirit. These words are life-giving. These words give voice and hope. These words are light and instruction. These words are timeless and eternal. These words are relevant and mysteriously intimate. These words reveal, both the subject of He Who speaks, as well as the soul of the one who reads, listens, and obeys them. Step well this week.

MY LORD AND MY GOD…what an incredibly FULL week it has been. In it all, You have revealed both Yourself to me, and me, to myself. The previous is always perfect, the latter brings revelations both desired and undesired. All this You do to bring this disciple deeper into Your likeness—Your character. I do thank You this morning for the encouragement of affirmations which tell me that these steps with You are building block-upon-block a far greater house, “one not made with hands.” I thank You this morning for the kind of Father/child relationship which both allows and demands vulnerability and authenticity through the insecurities with which I grapple. You are the God Who calls me to REST in You. You give strength. You are of great value and worth, and You whisper in the ear of this child (and all my siblings), nothing less. You press upon me the necessity and the life-giving exchange of “self” becoming less, and You, becoming more. I reflect upon the GOODNESS YOU ARE this day, Father…and Sabbath with the fact that this child is lavished in it all.

FATHER…as much as I ask for Your needed intercession and work in my own life, I think of all those around me this day who stand in a place of need. My Lord and my God, I pray not only for “Shalom,” but “Shalom—Shalom”—a gift in You which is not only for the moment of need but goes deep into the soul for all time and eternity. Holy Spirit may the overwhelming Presence of You, The Comforter, be just that…and much more. What shalom there is in the simple/profound reality alone, that YOU ARE GOD! You are healing. You are Help. You are Hope. You are Overcomer. You All in all.

The meaning of intercession is that we see what God is doing, consequently there is an intimacy between the child and the Father which is never impertinent. We must pour into the bosom of God the cares which give us pain and anxiety in order that He may solve for us, and before us, the difficulties which we cannot solve. We injure our spiritual life when we dump the whole thing down before God and say—You do it. That spirit is blind to the real union with God. We must dump ourselves down in the midst of our problems and watch God solve them for us. “But I have no faith”—bring your problems to God and stay with Him while He solves them, and God Himself and the solution of your problems will be for ever your own. If we could see the floor of God’s immediate presence, we would find it strewn with the “toys” of God’s children who have said—This is broken, I can’t play with it anymore, please give me another present. Only one in a thousand sits down in the midst of it all and says—I will watch my Father mend this.

MY LORD AND MY GOD…You cause the tides of earth and our lives to ebb and flow—their waves both crash and caress. Who is like You? No one! Truly, You are the Shepherd of my soul. You are Shalom, but You also bring war. You are the God Who draws the needed and necessary contrasts of life. Four years ago, I was speeding across country to get to a daughter giving pre-mature birth and not knowing the full weight and vulnerability of her own mortality. Fast-forward to this day, and four more grand-loves, and many other miracles…. My, how these tides do come and go; and through them all: YOU ARE A FAITHFUL GOD! You are faithful when the tide flows my way. You are faithful when the tides do not flow in my way. You are the Good Shepherd/Creator/Father Who crashes with chastisement, caresses, consoles, comforts, and in it all, are compassionate beyond compare. You are God. Beside You, there is no other.

“PRAYER – A Holy Occupation”

COMMUNION with Christ through the Holy Spirit, is the life of losing consciousness of “self-ness.” In today's world, even in many so-called Christian circles, this flies straight in the face of the obsessions with “individuality.” I do believe we have forgotten what it really means TO BE a disciple, that is, beyond the weak Western hybrid of it.

IN A MOMENT…all of life can change. FATHER, this disciple sees this morning another side to “moments”—the incredible moment when the revelation of You is made greater and enlightens my soul with understanding. Like a beautiful cut diamond held under the light; as it is slowly turned it reflects and reveals…a new beam, different color, and deeper brilliance. My Lord and my God, just as tragic moments change one forever, so are the moments of my soul when You have revealed Yourself (and myself) to me. The rain continues to pour down from gray skies this Saturday, but in my soul are the lively and bright stirrings of love, peace, mystery, kindness, protection, goodness, and great joy. Holy Spirit, what is it that Your Light chooses to reveal to me this day? Perhaps, it begins here…in this thought. There are many moments that make up this day. Selah, and move.

The absolute only power that the child of God has, is the power that IS in Christ, and through His blood. I have no leverage when I go before God, and there is certainly no leverage or credibility that I can obtain of my own. And once again comes the truth: “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
