It is never God’s will for us to be dummies or babies spiritually; it is God’s will for us to be sons and daughters of God. But he does not prevent us from paying the price for being sons and daughters. He makes us sons and daughters potentially and then sends us out to be sons and daughters actually. Are we prepared to go into the shameless business of prayer? That is, are we prepared to get to the right understanding of God in this matter? We can only get it one way, not by disputing or controversy, but by prayer. Keep at it. We have no business to remain in the dark about the character of our Father when He has made His character very clear to us.

FATHER…in all these incredible, exciting, life-giving steps with You, I am profoundly aware of the fragility and vulnerability in each of them. I know and feel this. I need this sense of fragility and vulnerability. Holy Spirit, be my Guide through these waters. My, how You are so faithful!

“And your Father who sees in secret…”. The revelation here is of the free kingdom of love; there is not blind creaturely subjection to a Creator, but the free kingdom in which the one who prays is conscious of limit only through the moral nature of the Father’s holiness. It is a revelation of pure joyousness in which the child of God pours into the Father’s bosom the cares which give pain and anxiety that He may solve the difficulties. We are not beggars on the one hand or spiritual customers on the other; we are God’s children, and we just stay before Him with our broken treasures or our pain and watch Him mend or heal in such a way that we understand Him better.

“We are God’s children.” What profound simplicity there is in this; and what unspeakable complications we create when we do not operate and rest in the truth. There was a reason (more than one) why Jesus said, “Unless you become like a little child, you will in no wise enter the kingdom of heaven.”

FATHER…already this morning has been a testament to the adage: “The best-laid schemes of mice and men often go askew.” Of course, Father, there’s a similar one which rings truer everyday: “In his heart a man makes his plans, but [You] order his steps.” My Lord and my God, these days are not disasters by any means, but they are proving grounds for those who endure. And as is always the case, the grounds upon which You humble me mightily in Your grace, mercy, power, and greater faithfulness. I worship You in the whirlwind. I worship You in the debris field. I worship You in the movements of a Hand which goes unseen but leaves the visible traces of a Plan and Purpose that is always greater than my own. Who is like our God? NO ONE! YOU. ARE. GOD.

His WORDS point the way to LIFE. Find them, take them, ingest them, and let them flow in, and from you. Life unto life...

THIS MOMENT…is the moment You have given. This ever-changing morning sky continues to put on a display that spells out BEAUTY, MOVEMENT, and FAITHFULNESS. Who, my God, is like You? No one! Tides ebb and flow in their courses. The celestial rotates and spins in its cycles. The wind rushes and hushes humming freedom’s song—the echoes of a Creator. The universe, and everything/everyone in it is at Your Creator-fingertip. In concert, all parts, together play Your composition—a Masterpiece. My Lord and my God, truly: “What is man that Thou art mindful of him?” I set here this morning basking and replenishing my soul in the truth of Your Sovereignty and Shepherd’s care. Who am I, that I should ever fight against the LIFE that is, and that You create? I marinate and soak up with delight, this reality of Your Creatorship this Sabbath. My mind is stirred. My heart is being tuned. My soul is being filled. YOU ARE GOD. YOU ARE ONE.

As long as we are self-sufficient and complacent, we don’t need to ask God for anything, we don’t want Him; it is only when we know we are powerless that we are prepared to listen to Jesus Christ and to do what He says.

The upside-down kingdom economy of Jesus Christ is only as such to us, because we tend to value the seen over the unseen. We seek to have control. We seek to have security. We seek to have power. We seek to have our structures of understanding and operation. Therefore, we have what we have. Therefore, we find ourselves in the course of our “natural way” undone, dysfunctional, unfulfilled, and hollow, and in need of restoration. For those who are willing to embrace the God’s kingdom economy—a life of valuing the unseen over the seen, they realize that their power is in being powerless. They realize that their wealth is in poverty. They realize that their security is found in the way of being truthfully vulnerable. They realize that through all the brokenness that is this natural life, there is a God Who is, and offers, oneness. This is the way of the unseen kingdom.

SHALOM-Shalom…my soul desires it, enjoys it, and so seeks for the hurting hearts around me to have it. TRUST is the way, a trust that lets go and learns to rest in the truth that YOU ARE GOD. Holy Spirit, I need Your help this day. You are promised to me in this work.

FATHER…I walk in the LIGHT of this new day—this Light which is the glorious Light of Your Presence. As I look out the window right now and watch the natural light of the sun play on the various grasses and trees, I’m taken by the illumination and transparency power light brings. I speak of this Light and Presence not in a mystical way, though sometimes it may reveal itself as such, but I think of the ABIDING PRESENCE and LIGHT which You give to a communing soul. YOU ARE GOD. You are not only “there,” but You are here. You are not only high, lifted up, and untouchable, but You are very close—very touchable, and very embraceable. Who is like You? No one! I do not know what You will do or speak today, but Your Presence is real. I cannot predict what challenges, emotions, or calls to tasks will bring my way, but Your Presence is prevailing…

Prayer to us is not practical, it is stupid, and until we do see that prayer is stupid, that is, stupid from the ordinary natural commons sense point of view, we will never pray. “It is absurd to think that God is going to alter things in answer to prayer.” But that is what Jesus says He will do. It sounds stupid, but it is a stupidity based on His redemption. The reason that our prayers are not answered is that we are not stupid enough to believe what Jesus says.

Self-deprecating? Absolutely not! These are words of life to those who walk steps of the unseen Way, through this natural, seen life.
