Whenever we realize that not only His Word has the power to change us but it also demands from our lives a mirrored change, it becomes the point at which we must make a deeper decision. Will I go further? Will I turn and go away? It never allows us the option of camping out and building a "religious palace" where we are.

FATHER…hold me. Never upon this journey in this life with You is there a step or moment I can take for granted. As I reflect this morning, I do see where the greatest points of diversion have come from being comfortable (wrongly), assuming (too much), or becoming lax in the discipline needed in the moment, whether that be spiritually, mentally, relationally, or physically. There is so much in the moment of this past year that You are revealing to me about myself. Those revelations are both good and not so good.

But I do know this about You…NOTHING that You do is bad! You do all things because You love me. That is what a good Father does. And a good Father draws to His breast His wounded child. A good Father talks with intention, directness, healing, and help to His child…even when it is stinging. I guess I am feeling with ever sharper awareness, the reality that this journey to its end will be one that, while it is life-giving, it also calls for every ounce of my being to be challenged.

I need for You to hold me (and You are). Your embrace gives me hope. Your embrace gives me acceptance. Your embrace gives me assurance. Your embrace gives me new life. Your embrace tells me who is Father, and who is child: IDENTIFICATION.

YOU ARE, IN EVERY WAY…good. In every way, Father, You watch over my life—You always have. In “death’s dark ravines,” in seasons of peace and light heartedness, in days of carrying heavy burdens, on the mountain tops, through the constant valley way, in the places unknown and indifferent, through periods of loneliness, friendlessness, and undesired isolation…even with others in proximity…in all these and much more, YOU ARE THE GOD WHO ABIDES. I take a deep breath right here—right now and breathe in Your FAITHFULNESS. My faithfulness is, at best, anemic. Your faithfulness Father, well…this is why You are Father and I am child. This is why You are The One to Whom we pray. You are worthy in every way. You are good. YOU ARE: GOD.

There are certain times of the day when it not only seems easier, but it IS easier to meet God. If you have ever prayed in the dawn, you will ask yourself why you were so foolish as not to do it always; it is difficult to get into communion with God in the midst of the hurly-burly of the day. George MacDonald said that if he did not open wide the door of his mind to God in the early morning, he worked on the finite all the rest of the day— “stand on the finite, act upon the wrong.” It is not sentiment but an implicit reality that the conditions of dawn and communion with God go together. When the day of God appears there will be no night, always dawn and day. There is nothing of the nature of strain in God’s day; it is all free and beautiful and fine.

YOU CARE FOR ME…like no other, Father. As I come closer to You, I see this more-and-more. But as I come closer to You, Father, this truth branches out further, higher, and lower, in ways that leaves me dumbfounded—in awe and wonder. This said, there are areas in which the TRUST, that must be, is challenged. YOU ARE FAITHFUL.

MY LORD AND MY GOD…the revelations You have given this week have been too many to count. Some of these revelations have been received with awe, wonder, and the affirmation of a right path. Other revelations, well, are revelations which are stinging, utterly painful, and revealing of things which are not in accordance with Your heart; but here too, this is the affirmation of a right path, that is, Your Design and Way of bringing me deeper into Your likeness. I REST this morning. I REST in this place. I find my much needed and much longed for REFRESHMENT in You. I look to You this day to find RESCUE from myself. I embrace You this morning in REDEMPTIVE LOVE. This disciple leans into Your Way of RESTORATION.

“In close communion in Him” is always the gamechanger, isn’t it? It is also “in close communion with Him” that I am learning how to pray, learning what my real need is, learning Who my heavenly Father is, and thus, my wants and desires are becoming His.
