Know your place. Know your gifts. Use them for God’s glory.

In this clip from Mitch Davis’ sermon, “One Body, Many Members,” we’re reminded that God has given each of us different talents and abilities. We may not all serve in the same way, and we may not all have the same strengths, but each of us has something we can use to build up the body of Christ.

Paul encourages us to desire the best gifts, but he also points us toward something even more important: the love of Christ.

Whatever gift God has given you, use it. Use it to serve others, strengthen the church and glorify Him. And whatever we do, let us do it with love.

Every member has a place. Every member has a role. Every member has a function.

In this clip from Mitch Davis’ sermon, “One Body, Many Members,” from 1 Corinthians 12:12–31, we’re reminded that every part of the body of Christ is indispensable.

While the miraculous gifts of the first-century church are no longer present in the same way, God has still given each of us different gifts, abilities and opportunities to serve Him.

When we use what God has given us for His glory, something beautiful happens. The church becomes a healthy community where every person matters, every person contributes, and the world can look at the body of Christ and say, “Wow, I want to be a part of that.”

The first-century Roman world ran on a ruthless hierarchy of honor and shame, where social rank was everything and the weak were routinely pushed aside. When the church in Corinth imported this competitive mindset into their spiritual life, the Apostle Paul wrote 1 Corinthians 12:12–31 to dismantle it. Following the movement of the passage, this sermon explores how the Holy Spirit unites us into one Body, destroys both the lie of personal insignificance and the sin of spiritual elitism, and equips diverse gifts to build up the entire household of faith in love.

This lesson examines the unique position humanity holds within God's creation as image-bearers of the divine. Unlike any other part of creation, God fashioned man and woman in His own image and likeness, granting them dominion and stewardship over the earth (Genesis 1:26–28; 5:1). When we look at the vastness of the heavens, we are moved to ask with the Psalmist, "What is man that You are mindful of him?" yet God has crowned humanity with glory and honor (Psalm 8). God’s ultimate desire is to dwell among His people and share an intimate relationship with them (Ezekiel 37:27; Revelation 3:20). Understanding who we are in relation to God clarifies our true worth, responsibility, and salvation (1 Timothy 2:3–4).

“What are you doing to get the seed out of the barn? And what are you doing to water the seed that has been planted?”

God has blessed Franklin church of Christ with wonderful resources and opportunities to support the spread of the gospel, both locally and around the world. We are grateful for the men we support overseas, the lives being changed through their work, and opportunities like our television program.

But those things do not replace our individual responsibility.

Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 3 that one plants, another waters, but God gives the growth. Each of us has a role to play in planting and watering the seed of God’s Word.

The question is simple: What are you doing with the opportunities God has given you?

What happens when the values of the world make their way into the church?

This Sunday, Mitch Davis continues our year-long study of 1 Corinthians as we look at 1 Corinthians 12:12–31 and Paul’s teaching on what life in God’s kingdom is meant to look like.

In first-century Corinth, society was deeply shaped by honor and shame. Those with wealth, status and influence were often elevated above others, while those with less were expected to serve them. Paul addresses what happens when those worldly values are carried into the church.

But God’s kingdom operates differently.

In Christ, we are one body. Every person has value. Every member has a place. And through the Spirit, God calls us to live together in a way that reflects His wisdom rather than the values of the world.

Join us this Sunday as we continue our journey through 1 Corinthians and discover what it means to live together as the body of Christ.

Is Revelation really two books?

In this class, Jeff Cason explains how Revelation is one unified book with a consistent, overarching theme, while presenting its message in two different ways.

Chapters 1–11 tell the story through one perspective, moving through the imagery of the seven seals and seven trumpets. Beginning in chapter 12, John presents the same overarching story from another perspective, continuing through chapter 22.

Understanding this structure can help us step back from the individual symbols and see the bigger picture of what Revelation is communicating.

“Because design implies a designer, God’s reality is in view when we observe the world in which we dwell.”

In this Bible class, Zachary Ford encourages us to slow down and look at creation differently. The beauty, order and design we see around us can point us toward the Creator.

If you want to draw closer to God, take some time to step into His creation. Spend time in prayer, meditation and thanksgiving, and allow the things He has made to turn your heart toward Him.

Sometimes, we just need to slow down and look around.
