Penny will be missed by all at Franklin KY Church of God !
Penny Ann (McCoy) Johnson, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6th, 2026, at the TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Born on October 3rd, 1963, in Fountain Run, KY, Penny lived a life full of love, compassion, and kindness that touched all who knew her.
Penny is survived by her husband of 28 years, Ricky Johnson, and her three daughters, Savannah Hasty (Wesley) of Franklin, KY, Angela Witt (Rusty) of Franklin, KY, and Nova Johnson of Franklin, KY. She was a proud grandmother to Arabella, Ashira, Brooke, Alli, and Paisley, and a great-grandmother to Huntley. Penny also leaves behind two bonus sons, Paul Chandler of Franklin, KY, and Jimmy Stafford of Nashville, TN. She will be dearly missed by her brother, Paul McCoy (Kim Burns) of Bowling Green, KY, and her sisters, Wanda Hale, Lena Chandler, Peggy Bilbrey, and Debbie Chandler (Charlie), all of Franklin, KY. Penny's longtime girlfriend, Lisa Frix, and her cherished fur babies, Charlie and Missy, mourn her loss as well.
Penny was predeceased by her parents, Earl and Minnie Marie (Eaton) McCoy; her brother, James McCoy; her sister, Linda Vaughn; and her brothers-in-law, Joe Chandler and Johnny Hale.
In her professional life, Penny was a dedicated employee at Macy's Distribution Center. Outside of work, she enjoyed spending time in nature, fishing, cooking, and tending to her flower beds. Penny was known for her love of working on crossword puzzles, her devoted time with family, and her unwavering faith, as she never liked to miss church.
Funeral services to honor Penny's life will be held at Gilbert Funeral Home & Crematory in Franklin, KY, on Friday, September 11th, 2026, at 1:00 pm with interment to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, KY. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, September 10th, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and again on Friday, September 11th, 2026, from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Pallbearers honoring Penny will be Eric Bilbrey, R.J. Hewgley, Paul McCoy, Paul Chandler, Westley Hasty, Jimmy Stafford, and Richard Chandler. An honorary pallbearer will be Dustin Wheet.
