WHY PATRIOT DAY IS IMPORTANT

On December 18, 2001, Congress approved a joint resolution designating September 11 of each year as “Patriot Day.” It’s a day to remember the more than 3,000 innocent lives lost on that September morning in 2001.

The resolution requests that each year the President issue a proclamation calling on the American people and state and local governments to observe the day with appropriate programs and activities. Those activities include remembrance services, candlelight vigils, moments of silence, and flying the American flag at half-staff.

In his 2003 proclamation President Bush said, “On that day, and in its aftermath, we saw the greatness of America in the bravery of victims; in the heroism of first responders who laid down their lives to save others; in the compassion of people who stepped forward to help those they had never met; and in the generosity of millions of Americans who enriched our country with acts of service and kindness.”

Keep them all in your prayers this Patriot Day.

Jude 1:22-23 instructs believers to rescue others from spiritual error using different levels of mercy and caution depending on their state of doubt or sin.

It was important then and it's important now.

Key Meanings and Actions

Those who doubt (v. 22): Show patience and compassion to people whose faith is wavering or uncertain. Help them with gentleness rather than harsh judgment.

Snatching from the fire (v. 23): Take urgent, bold action to rescue those deeply influenced by false teachings or severe sin before they face destruction.

Show mercy with fear (v. 23): Exercise caution when helping deeply compromised individuals.

Guard your own heart and soul against corruption while showing grace, "hating even the garment stained by the flesh"—meaning stay completely repulsed by the sin itself while trying to save the sinner.

HAPPY LABOR DAY!

In the Bible, work is viewed as a fundamental part of human design and a gift from God, not a curse. God is portrayed as a worker, and humans are made in His image to tend, care for, and develop creation. Labor provides a way to worship God, support families, and help people in need.

"Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever" - 1 Timothy 5:8
-and-
"Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need." - Ephesians 4:28

THE SABBATH ISN'T A PUNISHMENT

Jesus spoke the words, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath" in Mark 2:27 to explain that God gave the day of rest as a helpful gift for human well-being, rather than a strict burden.

The Meaning of the Passage

A Gift, Not a Trap: God created the Sabbath to give people physical rest, spiritual renewal, and relief from daily stress.

People Come First: Human needs and compassion matter more than rigid religious rules.

The Context: Jesus answered the Pharisees, who criticized His hungry disciples for picking grain to eat on the Sabbath. Jesus showed that mercy and basic human survival override strict legalism.

Isn't Jesus awesome?!
