"My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked with favor on the lowly state of his servant" - Luke 1:47-48

In these verses of praise, often called The Magnificat, Mary expresses her joy in being seen and loved by God. The Magnificat reminds us that God notices those the world often overlooks and brings hope to humble hearts.

"Every day to us is Easter, with its resurrection song.
When the cares of life o'erwhelm us, Easter people, sing this song:
'Alleluia! Alleluia!' Everlasting triumph song." 🎶

"Easter People, Raise Your Voices" (no. 304 in The United Methodist Hymnal) was written by Rev. William Marceus James for his congregation at Metropolitan Community United Methodist Church in New York City. It's a reminder that we live in the reality of Easter and new life.

💭 Where do you see signs of Easter today?

Francis of Assisi wrote the words used for "All Creatures of Our God and King" (United Methodist Hymnal no. 62) over 800 years ago. The poem he wrote, "Canticle of the Sun", was based on Psalm 148.

The hymn rejoices in finding the presence of God in the world around us. It calls us to appreciate the interconnectedness of our world. Everything working for the benefit of creation attests to the goodness of God.

🎶 "All creatures of our God and King,
lift up your voice and with us sing,
O praise ye!
Alleluia!"

💭 How do you join in the praise God's good creation? How have you been adding your voice to offer an "alleluia"?

Open my eyes that I might see ….

"Open My Eyes, That I May See" (no. 454 in The United Methodist Hymnal) is a song for all our senses. It asks God to engage us in the truth of God's love and the sharing of that love in the world. 🌎

🎶 "Open my mouth, and let me bear
gladly the warm truth everywhere,
open my heart and let me prepare
love with thy children thus to share.

Silently now I wait for thee,
ready, my God, they will to see.
Open my heart, illumine me,
Spirit divine!"

The song provides an invitation to engage in God's good works with our whole being.

💭 How might you use your voice, your attention, or your compassion to share God’s love this week?

"So again Jesus said to them, 'Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.
All who came before me are thieves and bandits, but the sheep did not listen to them.
I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved and will come in and go out and find pasture.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.'"
📖 John 10:7-10

Jesus represents the way to abundant life. Earlier in this chapter, Jesus said we would know his voice and he would call us by name.

🤔 When have you gotten a sense Jesus was calling your name? Where or when do you give space to listen to the voice of Jesus?
