Promises made; Promises Kept

For I passed on to you as most important what I also received:
- that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures,
- that He was buried,
- that He was raised on the third day according to the scriptures,
- and that He appeared to Cephas [Peter], then to the twelve.
- Then He appeared to over 500 brothers at one time, most of whom remain present, but some have fallen asleep [died].
- Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
- Last of all, as to one abnormally born [undeserving], He also appeared to me [Paul].
- 1 Corinthians 15:3-8

If you attended Easter services this morning, you sang. You smiled. You declared, “He is risen!”

But what does that change?

The tomb being empty means:
- Your sin isn’t in charge anymore
- Your past doesn’t get the final Word
- And death doesn’t win!

The wages of sin is no longer death for the believer. No condemnation now exists for those in Christ Jesus, because the Spirit’s law of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. What the law could not do… God did. He condemned sin in the flesh, by sending His own Son in the flesh… as a sin offering. But death could not keep Him.

Jesus went to the cross for you, for your sin, for your guilt, for your past, and made you a promise - Life. Real Life. Eternal Life.

He walked out of the grave for you. Now, it is your turn to come to Him.

If He is risen, then He is Lord.
If He is Lord, then you (I) am not.
If He conquered death, then I must trust Him with my life.

On Friday - Good Friday - Jesus said, “ It is finished.” Sunday - Easter Sunday - the angel will proclaim, “He is not here. He has risen, just as He said.”

But Saturday… Heaven seems quiet.

For the disciples, everything felt lost, confusing, and final. They don’t know Sunday is coming.

Saturday is a place we seem to find ourselves many times - between a promise and fulfillment, where faith is not seeing, but trusting.

The cross is behind us; heaven is before us. But for now… we wait.

For most of us, we don’t live on Friday or Sunday; we live on Saturday.
- Prayers feel unanswered
- Promises are not yet realized
- Grief hasn’t lifted, yet.

What Holy Saturday says is Jesus’ work was not paused, just unseen. God is still at work even when we don’t see it. He may be silent, but he is not absent. He may be hidden, but not inactive. Sunday is on the way.
