One of the most difficult passages in the Bible is found in 2 Kings 2:23-25 where the prophet of God, Elisha, curses seemingly rambunctious kids causing bears to maul them. Its a shocking account. How are we to interpret it?

Despite incredible medical advances, physical ailments remain common. Hospitals are growing larger and with physical suffering comes financial hardships and relational stress. Let us pray for the physical well-being of our neighbors. Lift up doctors, nursers, hospitals, surgeons, treatments, and effective medicine to heal the sick.

“Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.” (3 John 2)

In September, we will be learning about Jacksonville, Florida, and corporate chaplain Lydia Greear.

From Sunbeams (now Mission Friends) and Girls in Action to international missions and now corporate chaplaincy, Lydia can look back and see how God has woven each experience together to prepare her for her current ministry.

Today Lydia’s job as a corporate chaplain with Marketplace Ministries out of Jacksonville, Florida, means she serves employees across northern Florida, building relationships, caring for people in difficult seasons, and looking for opportunities to share the hope of Jesus.

🙏 Pray for open hearts to receive the gospel as Lydia shares Christ with the people God places in her path. Pray also for Lydia’s adult children, Thaddeus, Jeremiah, and Starr, as they continue to navigate the effects of growing up in a missionary family and transitioning back to life in the United States. Pray that God would give them peace and strength.

🙏 Pray for our missionary of the week, Katee Sheppard.

A line of 22 rocks formed at a West African church—each one representing a Bible story from creation to Revelation. As members placed the rocks, they retold the corresponding stories. It was more than a display—it was training.

International Mission Board missionary Katee Sheppard equips believers to use storytelling methods to share the gospel, especially in communities that learn orally or lack access to Scripture in their language. “Storying trains believers to turn everyday conversations into gospel conversations,” she said.

After the training, the believers embraced the task as their own. Taking their new skills into the community, they shared boldly—and five people came to faith in Christ.

Now the church is praying that more trainers and ministry partners would join them and that new believers would grow. With five members fully trained, Katee has passed the baton and empowered local leaders to continue the work.

PRAY for continued growth and boldness among new believers and trainers in West Africa.

All around us are those struggling with various forms and types of addiction. Instead of merely condemning such behavior, let us first pause to pray for those suffering. Let us also lift those who work with and serve those fighting against their addictions.

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
