We welcome back Deacon Arman to help us celebrate the fourth Sunday after the Assumption in the Armenian Church which marks the Barekendan, or Eve, of the Fast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. This day serves as a time of preparation before the week of fasting that leads to the celebration of Khachverats, one of the five major feast days of the Armenian Church. The readings focus on spiritual awareness, repentance, and the healing power of Christ, encouraging the faithful to prepare their hearts for the commemoration of the Holy Cross.

As always, we are grateful to Hayr Simeon for joining our community and celebrating Badarak with our church family past Sunday, August 30th. We truly appreciate the time he takes to come and share in worship with us. We look forward to welcoming him back again on October 25th!

Throughout September & October, we’re collecting toiletry essentials to support individuals in our local community in partnership with The Salvation Army.

Every bar of soap, tube of toothpaste, bottle of shampoo, or stick of deodorant may seem small, but together, they can make a meaningful difference for someone in need.

The Assumption of the Holy Mother-of-God is celebrated each year on the Sunday closest to August 15. This feast commemorates the tradition that after the Virgin Mary died, Jesus Christ took her body and soul into heaven. Mary lived in Jerusalem for about 15 years after Christ’s Ascension. The Apostle Bartholomew was unable to attend her funeral and, when he returned, asked the other apostles to open her tomb. When they opened it, they found that the tomb was empty, filled only with a sweet fragrance and the sound of angels singing for three days. The apostles understood this miracle to mean that Christ had raised His mother’s body into heaven, allowing her to pass from this life without experiencing bodily corruption. The Assumption is one of the most sacred celebrations in the Church calendar and reminds us of Mary’s important role in the story of salvation.
