Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)

We do not live in a world dominated by Na**sm, Communism or Radical Jihadism because of the service of those in the military. On this Memorial Day I do not take my freedom for granted. Freedom is not free. I am thankful for the 1.3 million soldiers who have died in service, 2.5 million serving in the armed forces and their families and all those who have served over the years including my grandfathers, my dad, father in law and Uncles. Praying for the 540,000 Vets diagnosed with PTSD and the 50,000 homeless and those who wrestle with suicidal thoughts. I am grateful for organizations like Officer's Christian Fellowship that make a huge difference. Thank you again to all who have lost a loved one! God bless you all.

May we never forget.

Be blessed and be a blessing.

I came across today and felt led to share it.

My Prayer for Today....

May the church truly be the church today. May our pledge of allegiance be Jesus is Lord (remembering Caesar is not).
May we be expectant ...for sometimes rocks cry out, donkey's talk, dead people come alive, bushes burn, stuck people get freed up, lying brothel owners and religious terrorists encounter a scandalous grace and religious know-it-alls get a black eye by hearing, "prostitutes and tax collectors will get into the Kingdom of God before you".
May we remember nothing is impossible for God. May the wildfire of heartfelt devotion honor well the King of Kings and Lord of Lords and the pleasantness of brothers and sisters dwelling in unity be real.

May we remember that we are first citizens of heaven and may this truth make us better citizens of our own country. Raise up good leaders because when there are good leaders the people rejoice and when there are bad leaders the people sigh and mourn.

May we practice a non-anxious presence knowing that we have not been given a spirit of fear but of love, power and a sound mind. May we be people of the Word and the Spirit with a confidence not resting in "What if?" but in the One "Who is!" May we stand optimistic, courageous, hope-filled experiencing a perfect peace that flows from minds that are stayed on Thee.

Amen.

Take a moment… close your eyes and imagine that God is thinking specifically about you. After pondering that, ask yourself, “what is the expression on God’s face as he thinks about you?”

Does God Love you? Merely Like you? Simply Tolerate you? Disappointed in you? Annoyed? Angry? Beaming with joy? Glowing with compassion?

If you need a little prompting, meditate on these verses and statements:

1. “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” Luke 15:7

Could it be that on the day you trusted Jesus, there was a party thrown in Heaven with God and the angels, and the banner over the table had your name on it?

2. ”Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!”
1 John 3:1a

Have you ever paused and basked in the truth that, in Jesus, you are a most cherished son or daughter of the most High God?

3. A. W. Tozer in his opening line in his classic book, The Knowledge of the Holy, says, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” A false or limited view of God can lead to a grim or joyless faith, while a true knowledge of God— His holiness, love, and power— is meant to bring relationship, transformation and freedom.

Oh God, keep me from distorted images of you that only faintly resemble you. Guard me from the tendency to reduce You to manageable terms for you can never be tamed or put in a box. Protect me from the powerful missiles of condemnation launched from the arsenal of the Accuser of the Brethren and aimed to defeat my soul. You are worthy of glory, honor and praise. Thank you for the honor to be living in these days despite all the challenges. You are Holy, Faithful, Loving, Able, Ever Present, Wise, Just and Sovereign. Blessed be your name!

Be blessed and be a blessing.

Proverbs Wisdom

This week I have been well ahead on my Bible Recap App and finished going through Proverbs.

Reflecting on this…Have you ever noticed some people seem to have the gift of criticism? They seem bent on draining, exhausting, and frustrating you repeatedly crossing relational lines. There are even a few people who are just plain dangerous. If you haven’t met them yet … just live longer.

I learned early about forgiveness, bearing with difficult people and the revolutionary challenge to love. Great truths. They need to be heeded. However, I do wish I had learned or even heard the following truth that is equally relevant. We must maintain the health of our souls in part by practicing discernment with people.

Proverbs 9:7-9 says, “Whoever corrects a mocker invites insult; whoever rebukes a wicked man incurs abuse. Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you. Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning.” I once saw author/counselor Henry Cloud draw a chart highlighting the three kinds of people you find described in this passage.

The WISE, by definition, are not necessarily the most talented or the smartest, but they smile in response to the light (truth). When truth is presented, they adjust their life to it. As they dial in to the Word of God, they are instructed with more truth.

FOOLS, however, frown for light hurts their eyes. They respond with defensiveness, blame shifting, and attempts to shoot the messenger. They always have an excuse. Fools don’t try to hurt you but simply want to avoid responsibility. With these people we find ourselves saying, “I’ve told them 50 times!” Fools need limits, consequences, and deadlines. Note: We all at best are recovering fools and we all have areas we need to grow out of foolishness … at least I know I do.

The EVIL PERSON is blinded by the light and hates it. Their intent is to harm, so you need to hide. Proverbs 22:3 says, “The wise man sees evil and hides himself. The fool proceeds and pays the price.” In extreme situations, evil people act in ways that require you to call the police, practice self-defense, or call a lawyer. Limits and distance are required in most of these situations.

As a friend once said to me in one of my gullible seasons, “How many times are you going to stick your hand into the bee’s nest and think you’re not going to get stung?” The helpful point of the proverb is that we need to practice discernment in dealing with people. This protects our souls as well as our lives. Boundaries—personal property lines that mark us off as individuals—sometimes need to be drawn to help us sustain energy and promote healthy living.

I still wonder why I was never taught this Proverbs 9 wisdom until I was 50 years old!! I pray this is beneficial to one who needed to hear it.

Be blessed and be a blessing.
