The annual observance of our Lord’s Memorial and his sacrifice on the cross gives us the privilege to once again focus on God’s indescribable gift. We marvel that “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16 NASB). We similarly marvel at the Logos’ willingness to humble himself to be made flesh and die on the cross that all mankind might live (Philippians 2:6-8). “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing” (Revelation 5:12 NASB).

Many Christians prefer to concentrate on the life of Christ and the New Testament writings. However, the Apostle Paul said, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable…” (1Timothy 3:16,17). This wise counsel opens our minds to see a wonderful harmony between both testaments.

In this issue, we take a brief journey to view how God foreshadowed the work of our Lord. This faith-strengthening approach reveals that our Heavenly Father knew exactly what would transpire far in advance of the actual events. Our Herald issue of May/June 2020 outlined seven steps of Israel’s restoration since 1878, outlined in Ezekiel 37, the Valley of Dry Bones. It addressed the fulfillment of prophecies from 1878 through 2020 and included a foldout timeline.

Five years later, Israel’s rise among nations as an economic, agricultural, and military power continues. However, many in Israel still do not recognize God as the source of its blessings.

Isaiah and Micah prophesied that Israel will be at the top of the mountains (nations) in the Kingdom. They detailed how the word of God will spread from Jerusalem to mankind. This issue considers scriptures describing what happens in Israel from today to the glorious future.

The Memorial Season draws deeply on our thoughts as we ponder the path of the Master, faithfully pursued, even to death. Each experience he encountered was met with patient resolve. Whether the mockery of a crowd at his hard sayings, the strain of compelling service and lack of sleep, the deceit of those who came to trip him in his words, the confrontation of the Pharisees, or his betrayal by a friend — he always realized the promise of Psalm 37:23, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD.”

The promise of that text is for us as well. The Lord knows our experiences, our afflictions. Not one passes his watchful eye. They will yield the “peaceable fruit of righteousness” if we accept them with the trusting spirit of our Master.

Already we have the joys of faith. Soon enough, we will have joys unspeakable beyond the veil, made richer and deeper by the trials divine wisdom now permits. We are thankful for the years of instruction left for us here.

The Harvest of the Gospel Age is the ending period of this age. This is apparent from Matthew 13:39, where Jesus defined the harvest as the sunteleia, or ending period, of the aionos, the age. We have been in this ending period for 150 years, since the return of Christ in 1874. This is longer than any supposed would be the case, early in the harvest. However, it seems apparent that we are now approaching the closing portion of this period.
